    Valves

    Afternoon,

I'm after a couple of 4" valves to use on the BD to enable me to purge them, has anyone got any that they are willing to post, didn't know I need them until this weekend so another thing that wasn't factored in

    thanks.
    Steve.

Im shutting down my pond at the end of this month and have a 4” valve along with 1.5” ball valves which I will be removing. They have solvent weld already glued into them but are easily reusable with couplings or rubber boot connectors.

    Cheers Chris

Slides are good for dump valves but have a tendency to leak after a time, the good thing about them is you can dump water very fast and they are cheap, ideal for purging bottom drains, but ball valves will last for a very long time and if they leak they can be tightened up or you can get repair part for them, they are expensive but if you rely on them to stop the pond from leaking then they are what you need.

on saying all that its all down to money, a slide valve is better than no valve and this can be a very expensive hobby, both will do the job you want, the ball valve is better but bloody expensive

Also make sure the valves you get are for the pipe you have, pressure and non pressure are a different size, you van get sleeves to make one fit another, but just be careful when you buy them

You can replace the seals on slide valves and I find them easier to operate? Personal preference I guess

I've only ever had a 2" slide and that was easy to operate but it did constantly leak, the ball valves can be quite difficult to open and close, I tend to check mine once or twice a year, as you say, its personal preference and personal situations, the ball valves are quite big and don't fit in every situation

its all about what the budget is, we all like a bargain. me personally have tried them all. slide valves are good. but not as good as a ball valve.
they don t last as long. t piece handle snaps. on two of mine in the past.
ball valves i have tried them all to save money. yellow handled ones. which i found the cheapest. in the end i had to replace them all
the best valves are the blue handled valves more exspensive though. these are the ones i had to put it in the end. cost a lot. but in my opinion are the best. remember this is only my opinion
    https://www.bradshawsdirect.co.uk/ev...ion-ball-valve

if you look around on line you will maybe find them cheaper. I got my valves from Pipework & Fittings - Absolute Koi
as I said its all about what you can afford. I have a couple of red handled ball valves on my grow on setup. and there slightly cheaper. and not a bad valve. better then the yellow handled valves

as roy said earlier a valve is better then no valve at all. so if needs be. get a slide valve. you need to purge your drain and pipe work at least once a week. so a valve is a must.

Oh yes I forgot about that, god point Fred, stay away from "Kockney Koi Yamitsu Solvent Weld Ball Valve" unless you have the strength of Iron Man, my wife could never turn them off I came home to a leaking valve soooooo many times

Funny you should say that the one I bought 2nd hand has cable ties on the waste valve. How do you set the sieve up in relation to the waterline

My water line is all set to my skimmer water hieght. But when i got the drum for my nexus. It altered again. As your pond water hieght then levels with your draco drum waste tray.
Lucky though that the drum can raise and lower to differant hieghts.
And the best one i found hieght wise. Did nt affect my pond skimmer water hieght.

So before drum went in the nexus
It was all set to nexus ultra sieve
    To pond skimmer water hieght

My ultra sieve 3 has a 4 inch ball valve before the sieve. From skimmer pond . Gravity fed. Pump after the sieve
And the return to the pond is via TPRs x2 ( tangible pond returns )
1 1/2 inch both with ball valves uv after the pump.
    Sorry about inches. Old school
Because i purge this as well.
