Think the one in pic 1 and 2 is not as old as the one in 3 and 4,but, saying that mine is like pic 3 and 4 and going so sweet, they are a great pump.
What you have to watch is they have a mechanical seal, that is to say you cant have too much water pressure on the water inlet mine says the recommended pressure on the pump.
Not a problem and the seals are really good when set up properly.John

Just a bit of advice Aj and Frim, dont EVER run the pump dry as the seals will get knackered.

So you dont run the pre filter ? Was having a read on web that it must use the pf if pumping dirty water ? As no bottom drain I'll be pump fed though retro bd still think itll be ok with out ??

Maybe in that case I would use it Aj if pumping dirty water, mine are on clean water so fine.
Thought you were the same as me,sorry.
It is understandable not to have dirty water going in there as that could damage the seal, dont want to go on about the seal but they are very delicate and not a normal rubber one but a ceramic and carbon mechanical one,and you cant even touch the surface of them or they are damaged.
Dont be worried as they are very good and mine lasted for 18 yrs before I reconditioned the two bearings and seal.John
