    Hello and welcome.
Whatever filtration you decide to go for, make sure its something easy to clean.
You should be cleaning your filters twice a week in summer and you dont want it to become a 2hr chore
My filter on my 5000 gallon pond takes about 10 minutes to clean

That's a fair price and distance is not too bad but at the time being I'm putting my money to the side for a good size pond which I'll be looking to build it in around may or so

pressure filters don't offer anywhere near what they claim
they will clog quickly and the so called self clean/back flush system are rubbish and you will end up stripping it down at least weekly
which is not straight forward, the bio side of the filter is pathetic for the size of the unit and price they charge.
(which you are charged for there false claims)
compare all this to a simple box filter and its a no brainer
a box is easy to clean ,cheep and offers a far superior bio capacity

    Agreed.

I have had a 4500l and a 9000l size pressure filter on a 1700l pond. The 4500 was cleaning every other day with small koi. The 9000 worked but the 6000lph pump clogging was the main issue. Also pump rates are also something to be wary of - my 6000lph pump is more like 3-4000lph once the pressure filter and a little head height was added.

The 9000's bio was minuscule (1/2 the canister on the left). The 4500l on the right:

I have 5 koi.. and they can overload the 9000 bio now they've grown.

Now compare that to the 18000l sized bio chamber. I have 1/2 the capacity, 50l, of media (enough for a 8000l pond), the chamber is 60cm deep!

This will cope with the fish as they grow in the new pond. The same 5 fish!

Lora's point about understanding how much bio is needed is key - this is as much todo with the amount of food the fish will eat and the waste produced as it is pond size

Have a look at Wrighty's YouTube channel - DIY filters including blue barrel bio filters.
