Ant you need four pieces that size as the stopper uses four layers to make the seal ... so you need a small strip of scrap pond liner 6" x 24" ... OR a piece of rubber sheet 4mm+ thick that is 6" x 6".
OR an Eazypod cleaning standpipe which I'm sure is for blocking 4" pipe (but check that) if anyone has one lying about ...

Couldn't you use a bit of pipe with a slit cut up the side so it fits inside the other one? That's all my pod standpipe is.

For the design of the filter me and Ant are making it's better to have a water tight seal Laura .... doesn't the Pod pipe have a seal on the end of it?
EDIT: it was the Nexus cleaning pipe I was thinking of ... Nexus Cleaning Pipe and Inlet Slide Plate - Nexus Accessories
Ant you could actually use a slit standpipe but you would then need a valve between the barrels.
I tried a few things and in the end the stopper is defo the simplest and has worked flawlessly from day 1 and has done away with the need for the valve between filters so saves a lot of money too ...

No it's got no seal but you do get a bit of water leaking out of it into the mucky side.

That's a really good suggestion Andi ... if the top of the cap had been flat I would have said that cutting one of those to suit would have been the answer .... it's only the dip in the centre that makes me wonder if it would work.
Here's another option I considered .... taking the seal off the male side of this and putting it on a suitable standpipe .... I'm sure this is what the Nexus cleaning pipe is (one of these on the end of a length of 3" pipe) .... only thing I'm not sure about is if the male side is defo 110mm ... you could try it out for size next time your in Toolstation.
The stopper is superior to a standpipe though so if you could find a 4" end cap that is flat across the end I think that would be really good to make the seal from ...

Yes T-mex that sells the caps is a great company but the postage always kills small orders ...
The flat silicone sheet will be easier to cut to size ... I've never used it but I imagine it should be really good and being white easier to accurately mark and cut ... remember accuracy for the size of the seal is all important for the stopper.
I think I'll definitely be using some of that myself in the future ...

I've bought loads of stuff from them over the years ... yes postage seems to be a bit random then ... you can phone them and get them to send it by different services still at e bay prices if it's high ... but I've seen them charging £6 delivery for small items before ... that was the first time I phoned them ... great company to deal with though.
For future reference or for anyone else watching straight couplers are cheaper at Toolstation ... they are labelled as 112mm but that's a typo as is their 21.5mm Overflow pipe which is actually 22mm pipe... I've informed them about both several times but nothing has changed ... they also sometimes have the wrong photo's up for some items ...
