Losing koi
Hi all,
new on here so be gentle.
I was away on holiday when a neighbour got in touch with a 'there's no bubbles in your pond' message.
after some questions turns out we had a short somewhere after a load of rain, so no air in pond we think for maybe 24 hours.
now I have lost two 16 inch Koi and have my largest 30 incher in stress tucked in a corner this has all happened since the 24-25 September.
would the stress of no air be the cause?
not only that but about 4 weeks ago I added indian sandstone as pond finish coping stones using sharpsand mortar all sealed with goldseal black.
was very careful in application.
I have a guy coming to do a scrape tomorrow just in case.
New NT labs water test kit say water is all good.

What filter system have you got and what outlet back into the pond.
24 hrs is a long time without air but cant see it having lasting effects

JohnS,
Botton drain to 1 metre vortex, 1/3hp pump into Aquadyne 1.1, return is below water level.
I did wonder if the lack of oxygen would be the only cause as this particular fish has scale damage on one side or should I be looking elsewhere like an old de-chlorinator for instance.
I had him out and bathed in propolis last evening as a precaution.
This fish that is in stress at the moment was the one seen gasping for air.
Will be gutted to lose him.

I've got no ideas except that it may have damaged itself looking for air. How is the fish now?
