    Water quality advice please.

Iím new on here and would be grateful for advice.

I have a 10000 litres Pond and started approximately three years ago with a hozelock 14000 which was fed by an
    8000 l/hr pump.

Approximately 18 months ago I added an easypod complete which drained directly into the water, again fed by a further 8000l/hr pump.

The water parameters last year seemed to be normal most of the time with levels of 0 for ammonia nitrite and nitrate.

In June I decided to upgrade my setup.

I parted with the hozelock and the easypod fed the waterfall via the 8000l/hr pump.

I added a nexus 220 which is now fed by the Superfish 15000 but I run it at appx 10000l/hr. I had placed 25 litres of micro k1 into the inner chamber. I have removed 7 litres a couple
Of days ago and placed it into the outer chamber so now have the recommended 18litres.

Over the summer I have needed to treat with columbo lernex pro and also FMG, with good effect.

The last treatment was approximately a month ago.

The difficulty Iíve had is that my parameters have been persistently abnormal.

    My readings are now

    PH 8
    Ammonia 0.2
    Nitrite 0.5
    Nitrate 10
    KH 5
    GH 5

Previously the readings had been much higher and over the summer have ranged at

    Ph 8
    Ammonia 0.2-0.5
    Nitrite 0.25 to 2
    Nitrate 10 to 40

I seem to be forever doing water changes!

On Wednesday Iíve added a couple of pond bombs and further filter start in hope that it would speed up what seems to be new pond syndrome.

Any advice as to whether thereís anything further I could do would be appreciated.

I have a evo50 uv in addition to the one on the easypod

I also the 130 air pump fro evo aqua too.

    Thanks In advance.

I run a nexus and an eazypod. However I also have a shower. Which in my opinion is the best form of best form of bio filtration.

How much K1 do you have in the bio side. Various things can effect your water. Change of food, growth of Koi, addition of fish.

We have had some serious fluctuations in temperatures as well. What are you using to test your water? How many fish and what size are they are in your 10k litre pond?

    Thanks Dave.

The k1 is the Same as the baseline volume that the 220 came with as new. I have however added a further 25 litres of micro k1 into the bio chamber.

Generally using NT labs to test but have an API kit too which Iíve used as a Ďcontrolí and theyíve always married up.

I use the aquasource foot and to be fair Iím sure Iíve over done it by using the hi growth for a couple of months.

Down to the all season with propolis now. And a handful of this every other day.

I think there are 25 fish in total. Mixture of mainly koi with two goldfish

Sizes vary but larger are probably about 45-50cm.

I might look at a Bakki for next year

If I am reading your first post correctly, you may find that the media in the 220 isn't fully matured yet specially if you have now got the maximum or recommendeded amount in there and also 25 fish in a 10000 litre pond maybe a bit over stocked. What you could do is cut back on the feeding and do smaller water changes as this may help the media mature. It maybe a bit too late in the year now that the temperature is starting to drop but worth a try. The medium sized water changes could be washing away the bacteria before it can colonise properly in the media etc. Also if you have got a spare water butt you could try to fishless cycle some of the media. Check out Manky Sanke's website for the way to do it. I would put a link to it for you but not sure how to do it on my phone.
