Losing a fish with no apparent illness
I have one of my koi which for the past two days has been lazing just below the surface. I did a scrape and found no issues and then took it to my local dealer who also did a scrape and found no issues. He suggested it may be the cold. Anyone with any other ideas before I lose it would be much appreciated
regards

Hi Stevo .
Sorry to hear of your sick Koi . Hopefully someone can advise you and you can get it sorted out .
Surely its got to be more that just the cold weather , hasnt it . My ponds at 7 degrees . A few years ago , it got down to 4 and I didnt suffer any losses .
I suppose all koi are different , but I would think other factors are at play here ?
Hope you can get someone to help you out with some adice - good luck !Colin

Are you still feeding? I made that mistake a few years ago, the motabalism slows down and causes poisoning from inside out,

Did you have this Koi last year and if so how did it act in the cold weather then?
You know your fish better than anyone else so the fact you're posting does suggest something isn't right. If there are definitely no parasites of infections the cold temps are a possibility, although fish tend to go to the bottom in the cold rather than the surface.
What are your water parameters and what are they compared to in the summer?
Is there plenty of oxygen and is the Koi breathing faster than the others?
Also bear in mind that sometimes fish just die.

just an update. i brought it into the house and put it in the bath with a pump and fishtank heater with the intentions of warming it up slowly. sadly it never made it through the night.i am ok at spotting the parasites. everything else I am rubbish at. can anyone tell me where to learn more?
to all those who replied. I thank you whole heartedly for your help

It would have been transferred into its own pond water in the bath I presume?

Ok so you did say to ask for help on here. so I have had my pond for about five years.lost some fish over that time. It is roughly about 1000 gallon and probably over stocked so for that reason I have two laguna pressure flow filters and a cockney koi 5 bay filter.
1st question. when I clean the filters out do I strip then down and clean to the bone or just the filter media. ie just the sponges and leave the dirty water at the bottom. or do I clean the alfagrog and the plastic spikey bauble things too?

I have not had a bay filter for years, and I have never had a pressure filter at all.
you might not like my reply but the pressure filters I have heard are not that good . with what I have read on replys to them on this site
when I had a bay filter I used to clean it weekly. but as my fish grew in size I had to get rid of it. as it could not handle the waste and upped feeding. in other words it could nt keep pace with the fish crap.
when I cleaned the media. I used to clean everything with pond water. buckets flushing the old water out the bottom of the chambers out the discharge caps at the bottom.
I used to wash the wool and sponges in a bucket of pond water. so as not to kill the bio. the hair curler plastic things, I used to just pore buckets of pond water over them. flushing all chambers with pond water until it changed from murky brown to nice clear water. hope this helps. and if someone out there ,is reading , and needs to add to this feel free

The cleaning is to loose the waste build up, that can harbour bad bacteria. Clean just enough without cleaning the beneficial bacteria. As said only use pond water. The pressure filter have a pump action that you use until it's clean water coming out.
What is "overstocked" for your 1000 gallons?
Ideally 100" fish. As they grow, become more overstocked.
You didn't give answer to the question about parameters.
Do you change the water?
