Thread: Raised scale

    Raised scale

Everything was fine yesterday, I went to check today and found this. Not impressed at all. It's still happy and eating, it just looks awful.

Took several scrapes from this fish, found nothing so I netted 2 others and still found nothing. The weather dramatically warmed up today, but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

One to keep an eye on, looks like a bit of a knock, at this stage I’d try a bit of Koi Clear.

Yeah I wouldnt be rushing to do anything drastic with it yet. If you can net the fish in a couple ofdays and run your finger over the scale, see if it feels rough. If so scale could be dead and might need removing. Sometimes knocked scales seem to sort themselves out though.

Doesn't look as red today, still looks bad though. I shall keep an eye on it. Typical when the waters cooling down, unheated.

Keep it in the fridge, remove a small amount with a tea spoon handle pop it in to another recptacle, warm up the receptacle slightly in some hot water you need a consistency akin to Vaseline, dry the area with some paper towel and smear on. Some koi keepers swear by it some say it’s snake oil, I’ve kept a tub of it in my armoury for over ten years now.

Medications and Koi health products, including Virkon Aquatic and Koi Clear ozonated gel

It's hardly noticeable now. I'm glad it come right so quick as it's one of my favourite fish.
