    Grey patch

D9A04A2D-A453-4726-B8FD-72AEA079FE7E.jpgI woke up this morning and my oldest koi (18yrs) has a grey patch on it head. (My sons pet fish since he was small.) Photo attached. Ph 8 ammonia 0.25ppm nitrites 0 phosphates 0.25ppm. Had a problem during the hot spell with water quality with high ammonia but have done several water changes 5 - 10% each time. No new fish for 7-8 years. Had one koi die during the hot spell which looked liked it had exploded in its gut. I have also got a gold fish in quarantine with fin rot. Treated with acraflavin. Never had any problem over the past 18yrs until the hot weather. I have no microscope as the need has never arisen. He/she seems to be quite happy swimming around. Feeding fine. No Abnormal behaviour. One bad habit is almost like sun bathing. Any help gratefully received.

    Hiya.
Does the patch look like a smooth waxy texture and all sit above the surface of the fishes skin? if so then likely to be carp pox, which is not serious. If however it looks more fluffy and cotton wool like in texture then likely to be fungus, in which case treating with malachite green would be the way to go. Getting a close up picture of it out of the water would enable us to be more sure which of the two it is.

At 0.25 your ammonia is still higher than it should be. If you're still feeding it would be a good idea to reduce that to see if you can get the ammonia down to 0.1 or below where it won't irritate the fish.

Thank you. I think it’s starting to go a bit fluffy so I will try malachite green. Do you think I should treat the fish or the pond
