Is there a limit to the amount of pure pond I can put in the filter?, it has had 6 litres now but I am prepared to buy more if will help.
as for myself i am sceptical of these pond starters. But why not what have you got to lose. it can only improve the filters and pond. if they do work fingers crossed for you mate.

EA Pure Pond Bombs DO work on taking ammonia down but they dont tackle nitrite.

I believe EA do do a product which addresses nitrite.

Is that what you have Pure Pond by EA? I wouldn't put any more in because....

    A) You mention that ammonia is under control
    B) You'd have even more bacteria converting ammonia to nitrite.

What i would do is this....

    Short Term:

    A) Salt the pond. I'm not sure of the volume of salt needed but it will be somewhere on Manky Sanke or Koi Quest.
    B) Keep on changing water. Remembering to maintain the salinity.
    C) NO FOOD AT ALL. If they are hungry, they can munch on the blanket weed.
    D) Ignore the blanket weed until you have the filter up to speed. UNLESS it is trapping waste before it gets to the drain. In which case....
    E) Find a nobbly stick and twirl it into blanket weed and remove it manually. You dont want to risk anything upsetting the filter.
    F) Do not PP your media at this stage. It will do more harm than good.
    G) Find a spare pump.
    H) Clean your old filters and media.
    I) If you are confident your dads fish are healthy, ask him for some filter media. Then....

    Short-Medium Term...

    I) Set up your old filtration system with the spare pump (See G) and your old media and your dads media and either....

    J) Put the pump in your new pond and use the old filters and media and dads media alongside the new until the new is converting ok.

    Or

    K) Set up a fishless cycle with your old media and dads media. When its cycled hang it in bags in your bio section of the Nexus.

    L) Resume gradual feeding.

    M) Keep changing water. Hopefully you will not need the salt any longer after a few weeks.

I am far, FAR from an expert so feel free to disregard my suggestions. Thats just what i would do.

I am curious why you went for a smaller pond though? Most people try to go bigger. But thats not a criticism. Just wondering what your reasons were.

    Hi there,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Unfortunately being extremely good willed, my dad cleaned out all the old filters, emptied them and they are at the side of the house ready for disposal. All media is completely dried out.

The amonia is resting as perfect.
Nitrite and Nitrate are still very high.

My dad runs the same size pond but with an easy pod basic set up so not sure I can pinch much media from him.

He tested his water yesterday (having never tested it) and it came back perfect!! (So annoying!!!).

He can take more fish and intend to catch a few this evening.

My fish are still very unhappy and listless with a few of the now scraping regularly.

The reason for the smaller pond is that we are extending the kitchen (despite my protests). So I needed to move the pond to another area with less space.

Thanks for the tip regarding bombs and amonia v nitrite, I won’t bother putting any more in for now.

    Thanks again.

    Terry

I have 150l of new K1 in a nexus 220 (the maximum I believe). I did not PP (I'm not sure what that is btw, what will that help with and could I do it retrospectively?).
It is more blanket weed than algae, really stringy stuff, I can see the bottom drain works well as it lies on the floor being constantly dragged.
Crap does settle on the bottom of the nexus and I usually get the hose on it to encourage it away.
Water flows fine though a 10,000 with variable flow out through a 600mm waterfall blade via a Yamitsu 55W UV
Air pump is an aqua airtech 130

The water looks great but the fish are unhappy, especially the larger koi which is why if need be I could let the large goldfish go?

I haven't lost any yet touch wood!

When you said you encourage the crap away with the hose pipe from the bottom of the nexus, is it using tap water or pond water? Using tap water will not do your media any favours.

Stop feeding I’d change 20% pond volume per day through trickle in trickle out until your filter media catches up sounds like you’ve got new pond syndrome be patient keep testing water when parameters ok give the fish a scrape if possible. Personally wouldn’t use salt as it’s a pain to shift. Keep us posted

There is not media in the bottom of the nexus, just a void.
