Was that scrape taken from a live or dead fish?

On the first photo at the bottom of the picture directly under the big black circle there is a shape that looks like a pair of hooks from a fluke?

Oh yes, the empty circles are air bubbles but that's a fluke on the first picture. I didn't realise there were two pictures so I hadn't looked at the first one.

    Join the club Syd lol.

I thought it was only one photo at first but on Chris's previous thread it said a couple of pictures were posted so I had a bit of a heads up but took a couple of attempts to find it lol

There was no gap between the pictures which didn't help lol

Just goes to show, I totally missed that !!!!

The scrape was from a dead Gin Ring, gutted Not sure at all what is wrong as that is 3 losses in 2 days... Have not done anything unusual, not introduced any new stock, carried out a routine 10% water change and cleaned both filters. Tested the water and all levels are optimal, zero Chlorine too... We have 3 sturgeon in the pond so pp would be an issue, even though there is loads of air going through the pond.

Any ideas gents ? I had to leave home as I work away during the week.

    Chris

You have to do so scrapes on the live fish as some parasites don't stay on a dead fish for very long as they prefer a live host.

That may explain why there was what appeared to be a pair of hooks for want of a better word from a fluke. There will probably be more on a live fish.

That's all you can do Chris, look up what you can and ask as many questions as you need to. Just be careful with YouTube as it can be a bit hit and miss sometimes specially if you are not sure what you are looking at. Just post links to get a second opinion on here and you should be OK.

Definitely a fluke there, but there also a few small objects that could possibly be costia- but its essential to see them moving to confirm. They are very small, comma shaped and tumble around in and out of the depth of focus.

If you can post a video of a slide would be very helpful for us to help you with the diagnosis.

Best way to describe them is like interference on a TV screen when you remove the aerial - if you haven't got enough magnification or they are in and out of focus as already mentioned.

Do you think it best to scrape more than Koi ? Or is one going to be enough ?

If you can do 2 or 3 at least and if you can't find anything on those do another 2 or 3. The guy that did my pond health check only did scrapes on my Koi and didn't bother with any of the Tench.

It all depends on what you find at the end of the day.

Just out of interest Chris, have you got any water snails in your pond as they can carry parasites. I remember a while ago someone posted something about them as at the time they were meant to be good at removing algae.
