HELP PLEASE - Koi swimming on its side and nose down

We moved our fish into a 12' x 6' x 4' (26" water depth) temporary tank whilst building a new pond, they have been in for 4 weeks now, and one of the fish, 24" koi, our largest fish has started to float around the pond, sometimes on its side and also nose down, it isn't strong enough to pull itself off the filter inlet it has been gulping for air constantly and has sores on its side, probably due to being caught on the filter inlet, I have fitted a large cage around it now so shouldn't have that problem again.

I have one 12" air stone in the filter bay and also a venturi dragging air into the return, we have recently had an algae bloom.

We are going out tomorrow to get a large air pump and another 12" air stone (rubber bladder)

Is this most likely the cause of the problem, not sure if he will last the night, I have put a 6" air stone in running off my air tool compressor

    Any advise greatly appreciated

Sorry I posted this in Fish Health but I need to get this sorted as soon as I can

Hi Roy have you tested your water ?. That would be my first action as things can change very quickly in a small volume of water. Are your other fish ok acting normally ?. Wont hurt to put more air in either especially now its warmer.

Water test -> Then scrape if water is ok.

    My guess would be flukes.

Unfortunately the fish didn't survive the afternoon, we don't have a microscope at the moment so can't do a scrape, just ordered one for the other fish, new air pump and diffuser is in the pond, so hopefully that will help, we are still treating with AquaPondCare Fungus and Bacteria Treatment, just ordered some PP

We had the fish from a friend about 18 years ago, so it could have been over 20 years old, it would have come from a garden center in the first place so not done to bad

FYI, just to keep the thread updated if anyone does a search in the future.

The problem turned out to be Chilodenella, it was treated with FMG, one course so far, I will retreat if required but all looks to be clear, the fish are back to normal and eating as normal
