    ph crash

Hi guy,s my mate has a problem with his koi dying one by one.just tested the kh and as low as it goes,no wonder there dying.I have a big tub by the side of my pond filled it with my water and put a air pump in,koi seems to be a bit better but still not right. How long will it take to come around?I know it depends on a lot of things, its a ghost koi about 16 ",he has lost 6 fish so far. Will it be ok in a few days etc or has the damage been done.also is it worth adding a bit of salt? if so whats the ratio.thanks mark

If your kh is zero your ph has crashed, you need to get the ph up to 7 NOW, add some Sodium Bicarb to do this here

What is the pH of your pond water?

After a pH crash it's a major metabolic stress on the fish to move straight into higher pH water. The ideal would be to let the fish recover in water with a pH of 7 initially.
Your mate needs to be aware the crash will probably have killed off his filter bacteria, so a big ammonia spike will likely follow. Are there any living fish left in his pond now?
