    Advice needed

Iv posted this in another section and I should have put it here, so sorry in advance for duplicate.

I set up qt to put the chag in. Let me know your thoughts so far on the pics to follow.

This was about 5 weeks ago

This was about 2 weeks ago before going into QT

This was taken last Wednesday 7 days ago in QT temp 25, .3% salt

This was taken this morning, 25c and increased salt to .6% for the last 5-6 days.

1, Do you think the size has increased or decreased?
2, Tumour or ulcer or something else
3, Next steps, carry on and monitor?

Iv tried pretty much all the topical treatments, antibac, top sealer, wound cleaner, tamodine etc before it went into QT

    Hi,
I could not comment on what it is but was wondering if you had actually measured the growth and hence were able to quantify any shrinkage? If not, might be worth doing?

Hiya mate, no not measured. I guess that's an option but will need another pair of hands. Was a bit tricky trying to get the pic whilst hold the fish.

Its hard to tell to be fair so same as ian said tashy can you try to measure it to see if it has shrunk any? How do the other blobs now look on the fins/side? In your other pics they looked like carp pox to me so should reside with the warmer temp.
As for the growth on his chin i dont know what it is possibly a tumor maybe? Not experienced anything like it myself. Feline or laura may have a better idea what it is mate.

I'll get it measured and then remeasure in a week. Pox on the side cleared up in a couple of days pal.
Hopefully feline or Laura or both see the post.

That's bad news if it is.
Looking yesterday's pic and going through the pics quick looks small, but going back and fourth from 4th to 5th I think it looks a bit wider, in a day. Bare in mind it's been like this for a while.

That looks like a tumour to me, has a good blood supply too by looks of it.

If you wanted to you could sedate the fish and try remove as much of it as possible but you would need to cauterise the blood vessels that get cut. Not a job to be taken lightly ad you wouldn't remove it all.

Or just leave it be and see how it goes.

    Cheers Laura,
I'm at a bit of a loss now, I don't think I want to try and remove it as it might be a bit beyond me. Although if was a last thing to do and the fish is to die anyway then I might. Just don't want it to suffer. ATM it seems to be happy showing know stress. You can't see the growth without bowling the fish. So you would be totally unaware there is a problem. The fish is acting normal. It might be worth just leaving and fingers crossed, then make a decision I guess if things take a turn for the worse. Love this fish as well.

I agree I think it is a tumour too.
I don't think I would have a go at resecting it in that location, because you would need to go down to bone/cartilage to get rid of it and that would likely not heal in that location.
So long as the fish is able to eat normally and appears reasonably active I would leave it. If it gets infected or starts to fragment and bleed then euthanasia would be the best option, sorry.

7 days on. Temp 24, .6% saltwell it's safe to say it's not shrank. Bit of a dilemma. I'm away after tomorrow for a few weeks. So won't be able to monitor. So if this is a tumour am I wasting my time keeping him QT? Would I be best putting him back in the pond and see how he/she goes. I'd feel better I think it being in the pond as I'm on a drum and the fish can get fed 4 times a day. I will be returning for a day in about a week, then away again for about a week, then away for a solid 2 weeks.

re easy size monitoring, a small plastic disc is good for this, (use same size each time placed in middle and you can see how size change has occurred), coins also work though unless warmed prior there is the risk of the temperature shocking the animal into moving

I often have to use a scaled rectangle of plastic that also features image colour calibration reference, so that all changes are easy to see, as no matter the light in most circumstances you can easily adjust the images so they are all as close to the same light conditions as possible

I would put him back in the pond in your shoes and let him enjoy life for now. These things sometimes go on quite happily for months, there is no telling how long before problems eating etc. start.

He's back in and seems happy enough now with his mates. He'll be getting some decent snap now too as I was hardly feeding as the qt was new. I did have some of my k1 in from the drum to help but was being careful of the parameters. Fingers crossed and see how it goes. Thanks for all your replies. I'll update of any change.
