I did 1 10% water change and did like RS did and added the right amount of M for the change. I don't have a clue as to why the dark 1s are tougher but I do know that my white doitsu is the most sensitive fish I have, in animals white is usually a weaker trait..

Just did a 20% water change and now tricling in quite fast for a couple of hrs.
Did an ammonia check and it is about 0.3 hard to go by the colours but it's up a bit.
Nitrite on 0 and nitrate on 40, ph 7.6 and kh on 4drops.
So I think it's the filters not mature with the ammonia, could I put some media from my main pond in the shower?John

Yeah go for it John, can't do any harm but the pond media may or may not get knocked back a bit for a couple of days in its new environment.
Just remember your bio security and not put the media back in the pond after without disinfecting it, just in case some of those flukes get on it and survive.

Hi John
The more fry you have in a confined environment the more difficut it is and the slower they will grow. Think that RS's experience with the 4 helps demonstrate that, I did the first major selection a week or so ago (kept circa 3%!) and the response in terms of acceleration in growth has been massive, particularly in one tank that was more heavily populated (so the fish were smaller) but is now the least heavily populated.. ,
The ammonia and nitrite are just the pollution indicators we measure,,,
It is so easy to get in to a cycle of fish not growing so feed more, they appear so ravenous, just waiting at the feed point for more..
Maybe time to think about doing some selections?

Hi John
Ive been off, busy for a few weeks so just trying to catch up on the forum.
How is the flashing going?
I had flashing if you recall with New Forrest Koi fry in my 1000L IBC. I had delivered 131 fry end of last year.
I kept a log on a spreadsheet of all my stats and figures including the flashing problem.
I have a feeling its just going to happen with fry in a tank when the water is just not perfect.
I never treated with chemicals, I added a little salt as per New Forrest koi advice but only at delivery and for a few weeks after. Other than that I just did water changes, and watched the food intake to control the ammonia as you all advised me, and of the 131 fish I only lost 30.
I will try and get my spreadsheet put up on here.
Steve.
Edited to add a screen shot of page 1 of spreadsheet.
John it looks like my flashing was ammonia, once i got that to 0 on day 33 the flashing stopped in three days.

Has flashing now stopped?
And the parameters, any improvement?
Any new photos?

Hi Rs, They seem to have settled a bit and still the odd flash but not letting it bother me.
Ammonia not quite 0 but working on it with water changes, the odd thin one dying but on the whole growing a bit and the colours are there be it a bit odd colouring.
Some are like black and grey which maybe Shiro utsuri as they are supposed to be in there, but they also have yellow on them and some are greenish, odd.
See if I can get some photos on.John
