Hi Ryan just caught up with this mate.
Nice one Anne.
I 100% agree with Dave. Find the sauce first. Don t treat blind.
Glad to hear you have found a club mate.
Hope they get back to you as quick as possible.
Good luck with it mate.

Ryan if you don't hear back from the Celtic koi club through Facebook anytime soon, then I would go up to
'' Cardiff yacht club '' (always wanted to say ''going up the yacht club'' ) as they hold events there and would imagine they have a contact phone number for someone incase they have to cancel a meeting etc.

Hiya all.... so some more advice wanted...
so fish are bit more active today.... so i could get a proper look at them.... the new shusui... think thats how u pronounce it.
well he has a red like pimple just before his back meets his tail.... see photo attached..
the other smaller fish is a lot more active today.... and eating... he has like an almost white film on his scales on one side and his one eye is cloudy.....
so i am still waiting to hear back from my local koi club... so took a trip to maidenhead.. they advised blangdon pond ulcer treatment.... which i have added today with uv off... its a 2 dose treatment to be finished in 4 days...
im very sceptical with any off the shelf medication... but we will see..
now this is the bit i wanted advice on.... i tested water parameters today... and all ok it seems.
ph 8. 2
kh 6
ammo 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
so i passed this info onto maidenhead and they stated it could be the fact that they are salted 3% and the fact my pond does has not have could have caused stress to fish.. so i have purchase 2 bags of salt... and i have kept the receipt and have yet to add...they also stated that my kh of 6 is a bit low.. should be more like 8
im a bit weary of adding salt.... because i would have to keep doing this right?
so as it stands.. i have added treatment.. what would your advice be going forward.. salt or not to salt....?
raise kh or leave...
thanks again all

I can t get my head around it. That people are giving you advice like putting treatments in the pond. And not knowing what is wrong with the fish.
Also salt. Because they salt there water.
Every time you acquire a fish are you supposed to alter your pond to the environment of that fishes environment that you bought. And brought it from
Or alter your ph and kh because there's is set at that.
What about your own fish. That you have had a while. And the parameters they are used to.
Cannot get my head around that.

Ryan...…...Gawd and bleedin bennet...…….. pulling me hair out...…
Do not add any treatment !!!!!! and u have deffo no salt.
Maidenhead Aquatics have not been out to your pond and done a scrape, their only going on what
you have told them and in all honesty it could be a million to one things, you should have sat on your hands I really hope you hear from the koi club sooner than later.

Sorry guys if I have frustrated u all....
I am new to all this..
Just trying to fix all of this in the best way... its really depressing watching fish suffering... and thought i was doing the right thing...
I know everyone advised not medicating until the source is proven. but the fact i took a pic and showed it to the guy at maidenhead. he stated it was an ulcer immediately so i assumed he must be correct as he stated they use this product themselves. I thought it cant harm giving it a try... I just thought it was worth a punt at £30
As for the salt. I held off because i was dubious about this myself. Thats why i asked you guys..and thanks for confirming not to use.
This hobby has really hit me for 10...
didnt expect this as I have really taken my time checking everything regarding feeding, parameters etc.
I am behind with a lot of things regarding quarantine, parasite scraping etc.
but this will come..
wish I had help a bit more local as my only point of contact othet than this forum is local garden centre.
As for the koi club anne.. I have tried contacting bur heard nothing back.. I thought about popping in the yacht club.. but to be honest felt slightly embarrassed and i dont know why....
Thats why i felt inclined for help elsewhere..
Time will tell..
I do appreciate your comments and thanks all.
Over and Out
Ryan

Bit of feedback...
some local guy from the koi club is popping around 2moro....he seems lovely.. and he mentioned doing a scrape.... he said he will give me the benefit of the doubt as a newbie.. and mentioned the pitfalls of buying from maidenhead aquatics particularly with aftercare of fish...
thanks anne... for ur insistance....

Well done Ryan the chap from the club will understand about you being a tad embarrassed about how
things panned out, but don't be, we all started out the same. Me insistent……………...never paid of though.
Next you will be telling us you've joined '' The celtic koi club '' hope you do, at least you have people near you now
that can help you out. Good luck for tomorrow and let us know how it went

Thanks Anne...
I am going to join the club... they all seem lovely...
preparing for a telling off as the fish are pretty lethargic again now.... But as mentioned its all part of the learning curve... Hopefully open my eyes to their experiences. .
part of the embarrassment is jusy taking the first step... I have this image of people with amazing ponds with fish thriving and me turning up with my puddle with fish staring at walls... but that step has been taken.. onwards and upwards.. regardless of what happens with these tiddlers... im keeping my fingers crossed..
This forum has been great... bur theres only so much info can be consumed in this format... so joining a club is the next step...
Thanks again
Anne..
particularly for getting me numbers. very thoughtful..
I will keep u updated.. good news or bad..

Good news Ryan that you are getting somewhere thanks to Anne.
I wouldn't go near Maidenhead again, treating blind is the worst thing.
Hopefully now you will be gaining a load of knowledge and who knows you may be advising us soon.
Good on you Anne, you did well.John

3% Salt !
I am sure you mean 0.3%
3% would be a 30-60 second dip, any longer would be to euthanase

Nice one Ryan. Now you will get some where mate. It's all learning mate.
And it frustrates at times. And I know you only did your best for the fish mate. Which is good mate.
I myself was annoyed at that stupid maiden aquatic s
Not at you mate. The info they gave you was pathetic. Not common sense.
What you have done in such a short space of time is great mate. And you have done everything to a tee mate.
Where all learning every day. And that's what it's all about.
Don t ever get embarrassed over your pond
Ever again mate. It's a nice pond.
And be proud of that mate. At the end of the day. It don t matter what they look like.
There just a hole in the ground with water inside. As you say mate a puddle.
Look after yourself mate. And thank that bloke who is coming to do the scrapes for you. From me. Decent of him.
