You have been doing some reading! Nice question Steve!

It is always wise to avoid PP, MGF, BW treatments amongst others when the pond temps are high and thundery weather is forecast. Not just because the drop in air pressure can impact on the O2 levels but also because the risk of powercuts is higher.

There are two things for you; the fish are small, the water temps are not that high so probably a marginal call but a days delay is probably not going to make any odds.

With MGF the critical period is for around 24 hours whilst the formalin in active.

PS don't forget to turn off the UV when treating.

and BTW the formalin can mess up the ammonia readings you get from some test kits.

    Hope this helps

    Dave

Yeah it could just be the last straw for oxygen levels if you treated when thunder forecast. Defnitely worth hanging on for a day. I personally prefer to treat in the morning anyway, on a day I am home so I can watch the fish.

Oxygen levels in the pond tend to naturally be lower at night anyway because microscopic algae and planktony-critters are doing the opposite of photosynthesis then and using oxygen from the water. So I think adding fresh formalin. or PP late in the day is more dodgy than doing it in the morning. Plus good light to check on fish is a good idea.

Being the paranoid sort of person I tend to fill a couple of large measuring bowls with pond water before doing any treatment so I have somewhere to evacuate fish into if any get in trouble. I then water the garden with it if it's not needed. Sods law probably means it will never be needed if you do this

    Hi Feline,

yes I did the same I filled up a large container with their pond water ready to transfer them if required, touch wood all seems ok at the minute, treatment went in at 2pm, I have soaked my nets in the solution too, I will perform some scrapes early next week to see how things are going, I am hopeful I caught this early so hopefully not a pain to get rid, I will give this a second course anyway, thanks Steve.
