Dead Koi ? Jumped
I have a mature 4000 L pond. Water parameters all good with good filtration and air stones Water temp 17c. Had 5 Koi. Yesterday largest (1.48kg) was dead about 2 feet from edge. No sign of any damage externally. Was feeding and moving normally the previous evening.
We have had herons but fishing line seems to have kept them off for the past 3-4 years. Also foxes take an interest but no sign that it had been partially eaten.
We have had a lot of rain so pond fuller than usual. Surface only about 2.5 inches from edge.
The previous day I added Envii Algae Klear Xtra – Pond Algae Killer For Submerged Blanket Weed and String Algae as struggling with blanket weed but didn’t seem to bother fish.
Can I assume it probably jumped out? Could the algae treatment have irritated it.
Interested in any thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your fish jumping out of your pond John.
When you added the treatment did you also add extra aeration? Did you check the water parameters the day you found the fish? Did you remove as much of the blanket weed as possible before using the treatment?
Some treatments require additional aeration due to the way they work and also as the blanket weed starts to die off it produces more Ammonia etc so a lowered oxygen level plus a raised Ammonia level will cause you problems. As oxygen levels drop over night the effects of the treatment will be worse if they have also reduced the oxygen level etc.

Treatments can lower the KH reading.
With a LOT of rain what's the KH and pH been, before and after treatment?
But you say the fish were unaffected, I have had the same thing but did see the fish on the floor still wriggling

Thanks for the posts. Truthfully hadn’t check water for a couple of weeks. Did so immediately after the loss ! Yes I had removed as much blanket weed as possible and had air stones and fountain running. So far remaining fish seem OK although blanket weed also seems happy ( perhaps too soon to tell).

Sounds like you did what you should have done John. Sometimes things just happen. Would have been more closure if you found or you find an answer.
The Daily pond temp thread
Still at around 17C, know what you mean about getting the covers off though :D it will be really...
