Trichodina and flukes
Hi newbie to your group and was hoping you could help me
About 6 was ago I noticed 1 of my koi had the beginnings of an ulcer netted her and found trich and skin flukes.I contacted my local koi dealers and was sold acriflavine and m&f pre mix I did place her in a dip with salt and acriflavine first before I treated the pond.she did get better thinking I'd sorted it I then noticed a week later my large chagoi had a few slightly raised scales at the tail.Netted and scraped found loads of trich not flukes did the same salt/acriflavine dip knowing the treatment hadn't worked I went elsewhere and was sold alparex. The chagois scales have gone back and she hasn't gotten any worse.Reading the instructions it states not to use if KH is below 6.I use the ntlabs liquid test kid and I only use 3 drops before the colour changes. My PH is a constant 8 my tap results are the same I've never had to raise my KH as things have always run ok do I raise my KH before using the alparexand how do I do this has anyone else used this treatment before sorry for the long post your help would be really appreciated

All I can say from what I've read (on multiple occasions) is not to mess with Alparex if unable to follow the instructions precisely re: KH / PH etc.
Also to ensure you've not added any other treatments to your water for at least 2 weeks prior to using it, especially fluke treatments.
Do some searches on this forum and you'll find info about when things haven't gone to plan (best searching this site via Google as opposed to the forum search feature).
As for your question about raising KH and then treating, someone else may be better positioned to advise on the specifics and whether there's likely to be any side effects of manually increasing KH prior to using Alparex.
One thing for sure with Alparex, everybody comes back and says it worked.

I used alparex last year, I had to increase my KH using bi carb before doing so. I have read horror stories but I followed the instructions on the label and everything was fine and it nailed the chilo.

Did you know that fluke solve can kill tric?
I'm not sure how effective it is but according to the creator of fluke solve, Fiona I believe. It was found that it also eradicated tric.

Managed to get my KH up and yesterday I put the 1st alparex treatment in.I put it in gradually and kept a close eye.The fish didn't react to bad but I could tell they wasn't happy.Checked on them 1st thing and came up to me straight away.Theres still alot of treatment in the pond and the 2nd dose goes in later do I treat today or leave until tomorrow
