fins clamped, on the bottom and spitting out food

my karashigoi is sitting on the bottom, most of the time with its fins clamped its attempting to eat but spitting out most of the food it takes. water parameters are as usual, slight trace of ammonia 0 nitrite 20 nitrate ph 7.8 kh 6 gh 9 . 0 chlorine. Ive had her out a few times to scrape and found nothing, im suspecting costia in the gills hence not finding anything. what would you guys do? Im contemplating MG&F to see if that helps

shes inside at 22c, ive taken her out to salt bath a cpl times and she perked up a little, possibly shed some mucus from the gills maybe? Ive looked at the gills and they look fine too, also the 3 others shes in with are absolutely fine. she had a bit of mouth damage around christmas where she was trying to eat an airstone that was treated with Hp and healed within a few weeks so i guess she was venerable to parasites then possibly but as i say i aint finding anything on scrapes

I'm no expert but if it was me I would treat with FMG, I've used it before on Costia and I know it works, I also keep a stock of it just in case.

Parasites attack the weakest first so the others may have the same just not got the symptoms yet

I've missed more parasites in scrapes than I've seen, so if you are like me its possible they are there but you just haven't seen them

When you say the fish is inside. Is this in a qt. If so treat it with mg&f in the tank. Shame you can t find anything on a scrape.
Keep an eye on the others. Then if need be after scrape. Do the full pond.
I hate treating not knowing what i am treating.
But some times you need to chance your arm to help them

They are in the grow on inside only 4 of them. Yes I don't like the thought of treating without knowing what I'm treating for but all symptoms in my eyes are pointing towards costia, rescraped all of them this afternoon and found 1 fluke.

Don't bother about the fluke its unlikely to be the issue. I lost a fish to Costia a few days back. I took a couple of scrapes the day before it died the first was from its side the second from underneath between the pecks. The first scrape showed nothing - the second they were clear as day!
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Im still waiting for my bits from Duncan for the suspected costia, i didnt want to waste my time with pre mixed stuff. Yea im not worried about 1 fluke on a slide, hopefully the bits come soon so i can deal with it sooner rather than later

How does Duncan's Formaldehyde work regarding dosages?

All dosage instructions tend to be based on 30% Formalin even on Duncan's own website, but Duncan sells 38% Formaldehyde.

    From his site:

    Malachite Green and Formalin@
    Malachite green 2% 10ml per 176 U.K.gallons
    Formalin 30% 10 ml per 150 U.K. gallons

Am I misunderstanding something or are there some calculations involved?

I treated this morning with it on the bottle it says something like 28%-40% or something like that, so I take that as it's not an exact measurement. I haven't killed anything in the past doing it the same way anyway!

Need to spy on them from a distance sometimes.....Mine associate me with food and instantly swim around when I walk up there, but when I spy from a distance I see one or 2 on the bottom. Doing scrapes right now but I'm terrible at collecting good samples and end up with a millimetre worth.

So did you treat as per the instructions posted above in bold?

Sounds exactly how my Sanke looks... Photos in the other thread.

Could only find Gill flukes on my scrapes. Either that's the cause or I can't get a good enough mucus sample to find the suspected costia. Wasn't able to get a scrape from underneath pecs.

5 Gill flukes in one poor scrape is enough to have me treat that for now and see if there's an improvement.

5 is quite a lot to find on a small scrape, the most I have had on a full slide is 3, hopefully that's the problem, fingers crossed

Btw, my symptoms are identical to yours... On bottom, fins clamped, red veins, and a small koi with the same symptoms except for red veins is also spitting food.

    Have fluke solve arriving tomorrow.

Fluke sole, pp and fmg is part of my koi medical kit now, I keep enough in for one treatment, I think it's got to be cheaper keeping a stock as losing a fish

maybe gill fluke is the issue im having too . well the 1 dose of mg&f should have dealt with the costia (if there was any). I might give her a few salt baths this week and scrapes before the bath and see what i can see. Keep me updated on your guys! it would be nice to actually have a thread end with a result on here

I have loads of Lernex but discovered it doesn't work at low temps, also have fluke solve but not enough for one dose since extending pond.
