    ph crash

Hi guys,my mate has a pond approx 2000 gallons, and he has major family problems so not been near his pond for ages.He had 2 koi 1 has died the other he noticed and asked if I could help it out.It was lying on its side not well at all.Any way got it home put in my quarantine tank with a bit of salt,my pond is in doors so warmer than his, approx 14 degrees.did a quick water check on his water and the KH is zero so,ph crash. After a day is seems lots better. Its now 2 days and its swimming around normal. Not eaten yet.The back of one of its gills is a bit reddish, and the top of the dorsel fin were it joins its body but getting less each day/Is there any thing else I need to check before putting in to my pond?

if its in quarantine it would make sense to check it for parasites before adding to your pond.
Well done you for rescuing it..

errm im talking about taking mucous scrapes on a glass slide and examining them under a microscope, sounds daunting but its quite easy.
it will almost certainly be carrying some parasite or another, they always do, even from the dealers, and it would just save your other fish being exposed to that, and having to treat the whole pond some where down the line.

thanks, yes my other fish were all bought at the same time 2 years ago and all very healthy. If I take a scrapping and put it in a jar and take it to a koi shop would that be ok or does it need to be done at the pond? thanks

suppose it depends how long it would be till its under the microscope.
