Is this costia
I have just scraped my fish after a suggestion that I might have a problem.
I have just found what I think is costia.

yes thats costia, needs treating quickly , I use p.p for costia, blitzed it no problem.
Theres probably a minimum water temp needed for treatment, cant remember without looking, might be 14c, so hope you have a heater ?

If you used mandf then you need to be heated but I thought pp would be ok even if Iun heated

Treatment in Malachite green and Formalin.
I have stopped the trickle in.
Should I turn off the drum filter and bypass it so its not diluting the medication ?
Thanks

When I used mandf I put my drum on by pass for first day of treatment and I’d turn the trickle in and out for this period others may do it different best treatment I’ve ever used for costia is Duncan griffiths icc you use that every other day for 3 treatments and it worked well and I by passed drum for 4 hours on each dose

no need to bypass the drum for m & f , it cant be filtered out by a drum, id turn trickle in off though, and uv.

thats a good question, the colour from the malachite green disappears out of the water pretty quickly but I dont know how long the formalin remains active for. Cant be very long because in summer water temperatures you retreat with the next dose after 4-5 days.
I usually just leave the trickle in turned off for 24 hours tbh, the pond will drop 5mm from the drum cleaning but thats not weakening the solution.
Turning the trickle in back on, is extremely slow to dilute it anyway if you think about it, especially this time of year when trickle in is at a minimum, its probably almost irrelevant tbh.

I can’t find on the instructions to retreat after 4 or 5 days.
I was going to leave it until weekend and re-scrape.
Do I need to re-treat after 4-5 days ?
Thanks

on my m & f it says to retreat after 10 days if water temp is below 14 c.
4-5 days re treatment time is what I do in summer when water temps are in the 20's, because parasites multiply quicker in warmer water.

I couldn’t get the fmg mix I had to buy each separate and I mixed the required amounts of each together.
I am at 12 degrees and I will retreat after 7 days then scrape a week later.
Thanks

22-01-2019, 08:19 AM #16good luck scott. I had to use NT Labs Eradick Anti-Parasite and Fungus does White Spot, Trichodina, Costia and Fungus on fish. because I have tench and orfs in my pond.
I turned the trickle in off. and uv off. I did nt turn my drum off. because I don t have a bypass. did the treatment over five days. then I scraped and all was good. I would of retreated after 7 days, but with a 30% water change.
good spot mate on your scrape. and yes mate them grabbers are a godsend. especially for old eyes like mine haha

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
