Different fluke treatments work better for certain people.
I've tried them all and for me Fluke M worked better than Fluke solve.
Give Fluke M a try first and rescrape, it's cheaper as well

I have ordered some fluke solve. How long should I wait before treating?
I put the f-m-g in in last Monday

I assume you have only done one treatment with fmg because its only been 5 days, if you did the recommended 3 treatments you may well find all flukes are killed without using a different treatment.
If the fish are behaving normally, then I dont know wether finding just one or 2 flukes justifies treating anyway, especially if your heated and the fish's immune systems are working.
Some times a call like that has to be down to you alone though, because you get to know your pond and how your fish behave, and you might see when somethings wrong that another person might over look. So occasionally you might have to follow your gut even if people are saying to do something else.

Yes I have only done one treatment. It only said one treatment on instructions and I used it for Costia
I am now not sure if to use the fluke solve or hold off and see how they are.
I only scraped and found costia after I posted about the white patches on a couple of fish. They were all feeding and behaving normally when I found the costia.

if you only found 1 fluke on each fish i would personally finish the costia treatment first 3 treatments over 5 days . are you heated ?

Hi Tony
Are you saying I should have treated 3 times 5 days apart with fmg?
The instructions said once then scrape and treat again if required. After 10 days.
I am now confused as to how to carry on.
Fmg for Costia or treat for flukes

FMG doesn't stay active in the water for very long.
I've not used it for many years (my current bottle expired in 2012).
I used to dose FMG every 6-7 days for 4 weeks. (4 treatments) and it will treat whitespot, trichodina, costia and Chilodonella.
Gill Flukes will take a few treatments of fluke solve to eradicate due to the complex life-cycle, which is harder to eradicate in cold temps as the eggs can stay dormant for ages (many weeks). I treated last year with fluke-solve and it took 3 doses at temps between 16C and 20C.
I think you'd be safe to wait and treat the flukes as temps rise in Spring, but keep a close eye out for symptoms in the mean time.
Despite what it says on the package, I dosed Fluke Solve on:
Day 1
Day 10
Day 19
I noticed within 24 - 48 hours of the 1st and 2nd doses that symptoms completely disappeared and no flukes could be found on a scrape, but then 7-8 days later symptoms came back and more flukes were found, due to the eggs being unaffected by the treatment and subsequently hatching.
My uneducated guess is that despite what the packaging says fluke solve stays active for shorter periods after subsequent doses due to it being consumed by microbial populations (this was backed up by a U.S study I read and I emailed it to Fiona ( fluke solve inventor) who said she could still find traces 6 weeks after dosing but was carrying out a study to try and replicate the U.S study).
In cooler temps it takes longer for the eggs to hatch so you may have to adjust your dosing accordingly.
Koi are totally unaffected by fluke solve and as you can see I gave 3 doses within the time that the 1st dose should have remained active for and there was no detriment to the Koi or filters whatsoever.
I turned UV off despite the packaging saying you don't need to.
Have never found a fluke since 4 days after that final dose.Last edited by RS2OOO; 26-01-2019 at 01:25 PM.

Fmg for the costia and that is priority. The odd fluke can wait bud, costia will wipe you out if you dont catch it quick enough. Especially at the lower temps this time of year.
Ive used fluke solve with brilliant result so would recommend, its easy and more versatile to use than some others too.

Quick update. I treated three times with fmg. Fish look much better and the gray areas have disappeared on the affected fish.
Cannot scrape as its blowing a gale and raining. If I try to remove the covers they will take off.
The view is great but the weather can be a nightmare
I will scrape as soon as I am able to.

Just to point out some of us don't bother treating for flukes - I've never treated the pond in 10 years - I have found the odd fluke so they are around but the fish seem to deal with them themselves. That said I've not had costia and had to treat for it either so that might change things??
I would keep the treatment in reserve and only use it if you have too i.e. you get unhappy fish and high levels of flukes - don't let the fact you have purchased the stuff make you use it.
Many people on here spend a fortune on treating flukes - and do it every year - I'm getting more and more convinced it isn't necessary.6000g in ground koi pond
+3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Hi Dave,
Have a look at my build thread there are some pics which will give you an idea.
Pond cover is fastened down. Last night the center of the filter pit roof blew open. It’s very heavy and even more so when wet. The corner of the roof has a sand bag on it as it tends to blow open on a regular basis.
None of the trees in the garden grow upright. There all at 45degrees even the largest ones.

Hi Pip,
I will hold off on treatment unless the number of flukes increases to infestation levels.
All the fish look much better, one small koi has spit it’s fins. I will keep my eye on it.
