Koi won't eat..gill infection?
Hi guys
one of the fish in my pond has recently taken to sitting at the bottom of the pond and won't eat. Occasionally it does suck in food but then spits it out. I don't think it's eaten anything for three or four weeks.
I suspect some sort of gill infection although outwardly, there are no signs of anything amiss. The other koi in the pond are fine.
Tempted to treat the whole pond with a broad spectrum anti parasite - I've got some Cloverleaf Parasite Answer.
Am I on the right track?
And, if so, would this stuff harm the tench and orfe that are also in the pond?
For your info, it contains Malachite Green and Formaldehyde.
Cheers!

Personaly I wouldn't treat - you are treating blind - the symptoms you describe could be anything. I had one that did that - it turned out to be an internal issue/tumor and throwing chemicals in would have done no good at all.

True. I'm only guessing. There are no outward signs of disease at all. So no way to find out what's wrong I suppose.

Not really.
I have to confess, I'm an amateur here. I just put a few koi in a big hole in the ground a few years back and muddled through. All I do is keep the water clean (zero nitrite/ammonia, nitrates low) but I wouldn't know how to take a scrape.
Does this article explain how to do it properly?: https://www.pondtrademag.com/koi-ski...-how-to-guide/
I might have to take the plunge and do it!

I'm a bit of a cynic when I comes to microscopes/scrapes etc. To me it doesn't sound like a parasite issue with only the one fish affected. When you scrape you will probably find flukes - there pretty endemic and sick fish get them - doesn't mean it was the flukes that caused the issue though and getting rid of them wont clear the issue. Having said that its probably worth ruling out some of the more aggressive parasites.
