    White spot or koi pox?

Saw these white spots on Leroy’s tail at the weekend. What shall I do?

they look like carp pox to me. but photos are not that good. scrape the fish and a couple more. just to make sure.
if you can t scrape. and don t have a microscope. ask. and if someone lives near you. they can help.
if it s carp pox . there is no cure for this. the fish will get rid of it its self. as it matures,
i had a couple with it last year. as the weather warmed up. they don t have it now. but now it is getting colder it could come back.
also put your water parameter readings on here. if you don t have one buy API water testing kit and test for nitrite ammonia. PH nitrate. GH KH
this will help others to help you.
    best of luck
    fred

    Thanks Freddyboy. My parameters are:-
NO2 just below 0.25 ( they had a bit of a feeding frenzy yesterday!)
    NH3 0
    PH between 7-8

I don’t have a kit for nitrate, GH or KH. Do I really need them?

I live in Bournemouth, Dorset but unfortunately I’m on my own with this hobby so don’t have anyone I can ask for help with scrapes or microscope.

I was hoping to get some better pictures of his tail but water photography isn’t the easiest.

    Thanks, Sarah

You need to test for hard and soft water. But the main ones are ph
Ammonia. Nitrite. As they can be toxic. And if to high need water changes. And stop feeding.
If my nitrite or ammonia is showing 0.25. I will do a water change of 10% and stop feeding my fish untill it drops to the zero on both.
I added photo of api chart.
Same with nitrate as soon as its about 30 to 40ppm.
I understand when your feeding lots.
It moves up and down. But keep an eye on things.
    All the best fred

hi Sarah, no need for you to be on your own with this hobby take a look at "Dorset koi keepers" website we can help you to learn as there's all the experience you could ask for in the club and we meet at St Leonards near Ringwood.

Thanks, St Leonards is about half an hour away. It’s good to hear there’s more of us locally!
