Hi
It's running through an inline filter but quite old and possible I was running it quite fast, I have a new unit on order and should be here any day.
That's kind of what I was thinking it may be.
Im back on a trickle now.
I might be too late in the day to buy some dechlorinator
Do you know what the condition is ?

My Dealer calls it Velvet caused by poor water quality.Perhaps a poster on here can add more detail.

Poor water quality could cause the mucus coat to thicken so that would be my first thoughts too. You say you have a nitrite problem. Could you post the figures you have for your parameters?

Hi these are my readings
General hardness 11dh
Nitrate - 40
Nitrite - 1.0
Alkalinity - 8dh
Acidity - 8
Ammonia - 0.2
Today I have done a 30% water change and slowly filled back up
Added Morenicol fish protect
These reading are after the water

Excuse the delay, I've had other stuff to do and this slipped my mind. Sorry.
That nitrite reading is five times the maximum tolerable level for koi and the mucus coat is a first line of defence which would explain why it thickened in order to protect the koi from what it would perceive as a hostile environment.
How are the koi now? Have the water changes diluted the nitrite to more acceptable levels?

Hi Manky
thanks for getting back to me, my Nitrite has dropped to .5 / 1
I think That i have 2 possible problems
that I filled up to quickly on a very old purifier running the water too fast
also I have the new pond syndrome with my filter
I’m hoping I’m getting over this as also last night I lost about 30% of water due to a problem with my cut of switch so have had to do a slow water change
Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
