Question Lernex pro feed (anyone used/seen this, have any expreiences of it??)

    Colombo Lernex Food - 800g

Just been browsing Queni koi's website looking at this n that, and came across this stuff, I guess it's fairly new as I 've never even seen or heard of it before and I must say that the concept sounds like a good one, but have any of you guys used this yet as I'm interested how it would compare to the more normal powdered/liquified fluke treatments you can buy??

It certainly sounds interesting as the treatment is meant to be more internal as the fish is consuming the food/treatment (obviously)

I know I personally have been having real issues (recently anyway) trying to get rid of a stubborn fluke infestation, and powdered fluke treatments don't seem to have been as effective as i'd like, Could this be another potential tool in the fight, with a more targeted approach or just marketing bs that can't hope to live up to treatment with powders/liquids?

    Anyone?

The first thing that strikes me with this is that it possibly contradicts what you read on internet forums, i.e That we are told Flukes need to consume and digest Praziquantel for it to kill them and all the strife that goes with dissolving praziquantel to get particles small enough to achieve this.

If the above is true, does it mean Koi will digest the food and it then extracts through their skin as the means to killing the flukes?

Nonetheless, it sounds good, although feeding for 2 Weeks may not be long enough as it can take longer than this for fluke eggs to hatch.

Lernex feed was developed for use in very large ponds or lakes, where the use of powders and liquid treatments would be hugely expensive due to the volume of water to be treated!

It was not really developed as an alternative to Prazi or Flubenol, but maybe worth trying anyway,if all other remedies fail, although it is only available from Holland at the moment as far as I know. It is readily available there and has been around for a year or two. Anyone going to the Dutch show would be able to pick some up.

Lernex pro feed (anyone used/seen this, have any expreiences of it??)

Queni have just started selling it which is how I found out about it. I get that it’s meant for larger bodies of water where it would be hugely expensive/completely impractical to dose with the more regular type treatments, but I wondered if it could compete as a viable (& successful) alternative to more traditional type treatments on smaller ponds too?

It’s certainly something I’ve never seen before and an interesting idea too (if it works) - treating the fish by feeding them!!

Kitsu koi are too I think.

Heard that flukes can apparently hide internally and in poo. Don’t know how accurate that info is though.

I’m not exactly holding my breath to be fair, but I’ll give it a shot as I suppose it’s only like us taking medicine isn’t it!!

If it doesn’t work I’ll be going with supaverm as I know that’ll be a one hit solution!!

    Hope it works though!

Tried to find out more Info today as very little seems to be available via Google. I messaged Colombo enquiring about the product, "all Info is available on the website". I replied saying I could find info about the lernex and lernex pro, but not lernex pro food. "It's the same ingredients".

So I asked about more info about how it worked as I was led to believe flukes needed to ingest the treatment to work, but if the fish eats the food then how would the flukes eat it. No reply.

If I do eventually get a response I shall update this thread. I would like to think it's a good product as all the other products I have used from this company have been decent , but without some info about how it works or if it really does work I'm not sure I will bother with it.

I can’t say for sure whether this worked for me or not to be perfectly honest!

I certainly don’t seem to have anymore flukes, but I’ve also being having to treat for costia too, so I don’t know whether the food did its job and nailed the flukes, or whether the fmg or ct I’ve since popped in has done the trick.

We have been using this for the last 2 weeks. Last dose tomorrow. Findings are 1) the koi hate the food we fish it out of the skimmer at least twice before they have eaten it all. 2)One koi clearly eats anything and has probably overdosed on it as he is now bright pink.... we cannot catch him to check if he has still got any flukes but we did catch another also rather veiny and stressed and lo and behold still has flukes really really small ones very very active. Not sure whether to check again in a few days or add something else.... any one used pure levamisole?

Think any medication that treats flukes can be difficult to measure as some strands of flukes seem to be able to tolerate a treatments

Thankyou for your advice - this was taken 3 weeks ago since which time he has had a course of steroids and is now pretty much back to normal bar losing his sumi. The bad news is we had a couple out yesterday as they are still flashing and seems lernex food does not kill flukes as they are back.... well perhaps fairer to say they never actually went away as the koi have never really stopped jumping since we found them in the 1st place! It wasn't until yesterday that we could actually confirm they are still around finding a few on 1 koi that has knocked a scale flashing though we did suspect this to be the case as several koi are developing the tell tale signs of small patches of crusty looking white stuff- when they do this its usually flukes in our pond . So we will not be buying any more lernex food.
