    What to do next?

I Have been battling a large, wound/ /bacterial infection on a 16” shiro for a month using the Kusuri topical treatment kit, The temps are dropping now and progress is slow, I have now isolated the koi to a large inspection bowl floating on the pond with a air stone and plan on daily water changes.
No other probs with main pond and fish all parameters good and good cleaning regime and filtration good , CT ‘d pond recently to lower bacterial count nothing found on scrapes. temp 17degrees

would be very greatful for any advice ,

not sure how often I should treat be treating with Kusuri kit (weekly at moment)
would it be advisable to use any dip treatments and keep isolated?

    Thanks Shaun

I would want to get that koi into a proper QT with a friend to avoid extra stress, and add salt to 0.6% (do this gradually) and also CT. Ideally heat to 22-24C also.
I would be very concerned about allowing that to go into winter with falling pond temps as it is. You could also consider getting it swabbed for culture- the right antibiotic by injection would help healing no end, particularly if you could use it combo with salt and heat.

Dude, i don't consider myself an expert but that looks a bit like what my koi had earlier in the year. Topicsl treatments didn't touch it. After speaking to Paula at Lincs Fish Health i got some baytril off the vet. It was cheaper than i expected. It cleared it up nicely. My koi is scarred but otherwise alive and kicking.

Thats the way i would go. Give Paula a call if you need reassurance. Unlike me, she knows what she is talking about.

I would leave the koi in the main pond though for its mental well-being and the ammonia levels in the bowl.

Thanks Feline, Really appreciate your great advice ,Unfortunately I don't have a QT facility and really not experienced enough or brave enough to attempt injections, pond is heated and could raise temp to 22. Is it totally not viable to use the inspection bowl as a make shift QT facility?

Thanks Andre, was it easy to do and obtain from the vet? How long did it take to turn the corner regards recovery?

to keep it in a bowl isn't a viable option Imo, the ammonia will build up so quickly you wouldn't believe it, changing the water daily wouldn't be anywhere enough, also it will be stressing on its own in the bowl, which will hinder or even halt any healing, its better off in the pond imo, especially if you can raise the water temps.

Cheers , I have got her in the bowl salted to 0.3 % with a tad of ct in and been changing water with matching salinity , have turned water fall off , put the winter covers on and turned temp up , will change water again in tonight and release into pond in the morning
