    Mouth problems with my Koi

I have a mixed pond of Koi, Orfe and Grass Carp and lately a couple of my Koi have developed what can best be described as lumps round there mouth. Can anyone help identify this and recommend a cure? Thanks Billy

Thanks Bandit, It certainly looks like it, hopefully now the weather is warming up it will clear on it's own.

There is no cure or treatment for it just the Koi's immune system that gets stronger when the water warms up.
You could put some Iosal or the like on it if it looks angry it wont help with the pox but will help to stop any secondary infection taking hold.

mmmm it is a strange one as when you view the second picture it looks very sore underneath the mouth and this looks like a bad bacterial infection however the 3rd picture on the underside there is what looks like a wax kind of substance

I think it an infection from the bottom of the pond but the top man will know it's just my view I am no expert but Ogawa will no

If you have ever seen a Koi that has rubbed it's lip while feeding it will bleed very easily and it will be tiny pin pricks of blood, this is exsactly what we are seeing here the pox has caused the lip to bleed. It is not an infection from the bottom of the pond.if you look at the Koi's throat you can clearly see the standard pox there.

Hmm, interesting. It would appear as though it might well be the pox. I never saw it like that before. When mine had it, the 'blobs' were more numerous, but not as severe. It was the lumps in the mouth that really threw me, but as said, it could be a secondary infection.

    Cheers...Freddy

Hi Freddy can you get get the Koi into a QT and slowly raise the temp to 24/26 with salt at 0.3% this should help the Koi's immune system fight the virus that causes carp pox.

HEY AND GUESS WHAT...MY QT SITS AT 24C AND HAS SALT ADDED TOO
