I may have mentioned this before. Probably one of the largest and an award winning garden centres in Europe, is Bents, off the East Lancs Road. We go there probably once a year, mostly because they've a nice restaurant, as much as their products, though of excellent quality is rather expensive.

As an example they've an Acer Palmatum about the same age of our largest one, though it's not trained in any way, which in a large tub is priced at £3,000.

I think I paid about £7 for ours, when it was this size, one of two we bought at the same time, (unfortunately the one on the right died).
Years of training altered its shape to how it is now.

Nearest the waterfall is our "dwarf" conifer, which I moved to the top of the rockery a few years after this photo was taken it's now nearly 30ft high.

Here's the other acer one "in training," about eight years ago. I later used block pavers to encircle both acers and edge the border of the whole of the left-hand side of the lawn. Removes the need to "edge" the lawn with the necessary tool and prevents "border creep."

It's actually a day centre for adults with learning difficulties .
The nurseries and petting farm are all part of the therapy for the people who use the centre and all the money raised go back into the running costs and development of the centre .

    I bought these 3
