    A little progress

Had this one out today to have a quick measure to check on progress, one of the 2016 eggs... so now Sansai, still got some work to do but at 71cm we are getting there slowly.

    Looking fantastic!

My DaveJ showas have grown quite well this summer too, but have not had them out for a measure. Are mine from the '15 spawning? One of them has had a lot of semi fade in the hot weather which I am hoping will come back over this winter. It's mostly my fault for not doing the pergola yet.

Yes if we can get to 80 without mishap then would be very satisfying

wow, so thats about 30 months old then, and its had heat and been well fed all its life ?

i know some folk say the fish age prematurely by not having winters, I cant say ive noticed anything like that, but im relatively inexperienced.

Using your fish as an example, how do you think the fish might differ now, if it had been through 2 winters, colour, shape, condition etc, obviously it would be smaller.

Or does growth in the early years simply take priority and we think about other things later on?

I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 80 cm by this time next year.

There are a couple in the wildlife pond that provide realistic comparisons. Low to mid 50s.. I have rescued one a very nice shiro (from the showa spawn- its a by product) will see how / if she catches up. For sure if the showa had been in cooler water it would have been smaller and would have been tighter and cleaner skin wise.. The risk with GoSanke is that if you push and grow them too much they are more liable to break up.

BTW feed for the last year has been 34 -37% protein.

No chance of 80 in the next year, with luck a couple of seasons

And at last the couple of Mukashi from Gary at Gatwick that I chucked into the tank to encourage the feeding have outgrown the Showa, now these have bodies and are cruising towards 80 next season..

Yes I am backing off feed this winter..

Mukashi are very tidy, one has a slight edge quality and potential max size wise, both are lean and athletic which to me is important at their age.. another 18 months and their reticulation will start to become really be imposing. Far from sure whether I will keep them that long, rather replace them with Tosai and take some load off the system.
