New Showa
Hi,
Collected this Showa today from Absolute. Isa, 36cm, unsexed so possibly male (we'll see) and shortly coming into third year. Popped a short video below.
Thanks.
Ian.

A really nice koi with potential.
I hope the face doesn't go completely black
I'd like the black by the dorsal fin and tail to darken up.

Hi,
Thanks Andy. I was actually hoping the head did go black!! Agree more sumi required. It's certainly started to come through around dorsal. Tail end looks a little bare....we'll wait and see. I just loved the koi as soon as I saw it.
Cheers,
Ian.

Hi,
I happened to net this Showa on 3 Jan this year so here's the latest photo comparison. Still learning about Isa Showa's but have heard that the sumi can be stubborn! Head pattern has developed a little. Size in first photo was 36 cm (17 June 2017) at 2 years, now 57cm at 4.5 years. Think it is male (?) and probably not going to be a large koi but is holding a good body shape (I think better in the flesh than my questionable photos!!).
Always interested to hear others views on such things.
Ian.

Coming on well, I like it and from researching as opposed to experience, it looks like there's still a long journey ahead before its finished.
Also like the Sumi coming around the peduncle.
Looking forward to the Autumn pics

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
