Visit to Koi Masters
Payed a visit to Chris today and came home with these guys, what an experience didnt really know what to expect but this guy really opened my eyes, with 43 yrs of experience behind him and all the knowledge you need to know about Japan we talked for quite a while and i am sure he was glad to see me go after all the questions i asked him.Photo0432[1].jpgPhoto0433[1].jpgPhoto0434[1].jpgPhoto0435[1].jpg
Anyway these are the guys and i think they are great,i was really spoilt for choice as i wanted a lot more but i had to resist, all Tosai and from Ogata recently, two Kohaku one a doitsu,Goshiki and to be honest i cant remember the fourth as i am teribble with the names think its a Kujaku.
I can really recommend a visit there, prices are very realistic, these are 6to 7 ins and four for £100 which i think is great,he had some bigger ones but i like the Tosai and he hand pics them himself in Japan but he doesnt send by mail.
Chris must be the most knowledgable guy i have ever met on koi, what he doesnt know isnt worth knowing, but i found he was hard work, but i think i got there in the end.
Well worth a visit.
John

This guy really opened my eyes,i have kept koi for over 20 yrs and the things he told me i thought,no you cant do that, but he reasured me you can and thats what the Japanese do,he walked round their premises and didnt miss a thing, eat and socialised with them, told me about filters and what to do,he swears by shower filters as he has them all over the place, and he uses venturis as i do.
Got to be visited,i know i will return.John

I noticed in the video how he fibreglassed the pond, chicken wire and a light render against the earth walls and floor. Something i've mentioned before in previous posts. My friends pond (15yrs old) in Bradford was built this way also, come to think of it the guy does have a Yorkshire accent

Just watched the video link, some cracking looking fish there.

He said it was very stoney ground think sandstone, thin skim of render on chicken wire then two coats of 600 glass,he said the render was only to give a smooth surface to glass to as the glass was strong enough to stand on its own.

Oh, my friends aint smooth, more a case of how the render was thrown against the chicken wire (literally). It's all rough and contoured, though the fibreglass itself is smoth. it works and works well. A tad over 18ft with two drains,6ft wide at the widest point and 4ft deepNot to read a newspaper makes you uninformed. But to read a newspaper makes you misinformed

Visit to Koi Masters
Hi John, I spoke to Chris last night and he said you had been.
It certainly is an experience and he is very knowledgeable but also rather set in his ways which is certainly not a bad thing, what he does works for him and he has taught me a lot
He always has some cracking koi on offer to suit all budget. Glad you got a few nice ones, also yes the 4th one is a kujaku.

Wow a thread dedicated to Chris! He is an all round amazing chap can't promote him enough! Started buying fish off him a few years ago. He swears by Sera Siporax as a media and his two showers on the main pond keep his water Gin Clear! The koi he has in there are unbelievable. Some of his advice is taken the wrong way by some keepers! However his experience and time spent in Japan leads me to trust him over any other dealer.
