UV
Can someone tell me please, if it's worth using 2 UV's inline on the return feed to the pond?

Depends on how big your pond is? But generally people don't need to,as you'd be reducing flow rate by adding more restrictions as the water goes though another uv etc

UV
When's the last time you changed the bulb? Ideally needs a new one every 6 months
And you would need to be using a 4000-6000lph pump so the water gets some time passing the uv

It's new mate. Only bought it 3 weeks ago. That's why I'm thinking it needs to be stronger

What were you using before?
And have you had the green water before this heat wave?

Can't remember the make. But I'm sure it was 55 watts last time I replaced the tube

Strange mate?
I would think it's strong enough to cope
What size pump are you using as if turning your pond over every hour not every 1.5-2hrs that could be the problem?
I've only had my pond nearly 2 years,so you probably know loads more than I do anyway lol

Hahaha. It's a super fish 8000 series. The people I bought everything from (Koi Water Barn) said that it would be right for the filter & amount of water. The water is starting to come clearer again. So I'm probably being impatient as usual lol. I read about uv's & a friend told me bigger is better lol

UV
Give it a few days then mate
should be about right with that pump as you'll lose a bit though the pipes and bends
I'm using a old kockney Koi Yamitsu 55w UV,I brought off a friend got the spares to rebuild it as with the hose tails removed and a rubber boot fitted it's got hardly any restrictions
I've got another one as well and a spare aqua evo 55w,it looks better but looks way more restrictive

My problems started a few weeks back when I was on holiday. I never fitted an overflow on the pond. Lots of rain & the pod let loads of the K1 out & blocked the return pipe. So no filter for 10 days. I'm guessing it takes a good few filter cleans to get back on track. It was crystal clear before I went away. Note to self be patient lol

Check the uv unit is installed the right way, Manky sanke recently advised that some units can develop air locks if they are not oriontated correctly thus reducing their efficiency.

I think submersible UVs can be fitted to an EasyPod can't they?
If you fit an amalgam in there there are a few pros and cons ....
Much better efficiency (more dead bacteria for the power drawn)
Bulbs last several years rather than six months
No significant restriction on flow
Hurts your pocket initially (but that's paid back over time)Last edited by admin; 30-06-2017 at 02:32 PM.
