Just what is this on my shubunkin?
Sorry the for the picture quality. Just wondering if anyone know what this is? The little (actually he's huge) fella had this last year too. I applied some methylene blue this year and last but not sure if thats doing anything. Not sure if it ever went. I initially thought its fin rot.

Doesn't look like fin rot. It looks like a tumor that.

There are some variants of the carp pox virus that cause growths like that.
If you contact Paula Reynolds at Lincolnshire Fish health she will confirm for you if that is the case here. If it is, then it will tend to be self limiting and eventually resolve itself. A bit like having a wart or cold sore in a human.2016 new 6000 gallon pond

There's nothing wrong with that fish.
Just a very healthy male.
No treatment required.
Have a feeling it's part Oranda too, possibly mixed parents or a single tailed fish from an Oranda spawning.Last edited by RS2OOO; 24-07-2019 at 10:27 PM.

They are breeding tubercles.
When there are so many there is a risk of them getting infected especially if you let your water quality deteriorate a little but otherwise they are normal.
I'm guessing this Shubunkin is a good few years old.
Here's the same thing on my Moors. They were under 12 Months old when these pics were taken, but as long as they're kept very healthy they will develop multiple layers as they become more mature and they do tend to get thicker at the base of the pectoral fins as yours have.
They will be bright white when the fish is young, but can go reddish and become a bit sore as the fish ages but normally nothing to worry about.

By the way, if you look carefully at your photos you will see all the white spots down the gill plates - just the same as you can see (much easier) on my black males.
