Last week I had lots of Ants nests on my lawn so I thought boiling hot water will do the trick and yep it did but it also kill the grass to so that might be an option

Not the answer you're looking for but just in case its useful to someone....
Had loads of grass growing through the gravel drive. Sprinkled a few KGs of Salt all over it last Weekend and by mid-week all the grass was dead even though it hadn't rained.
Only problem with salt in your case is that it supposedly makes the soil infertile although weeds don't seem to mind!

thanks for the good answers. Im after growing plants there so will go with hot water. Ive read online that vinegar is a good killer of grass too and biodegrades quickly.
Want to pt some nice acers in after the grass is gone
thanks

LOL already beaten to it as I was going to say a cat or a dog peeing on it would do the trick. Probably easier to use a dog as cats tend to only go where they want to where as with a dog you might be able to drag it over to the correct areas

Female dogs are more potent, our previous male dog didn't cause much problem but our newish rescue is a nightmare its like urine crop circles
