I think if you have a video on YouTube that's over 10 mins long you can get ad revenue from it. Just imagine how many ads he could put on there !! 😀

I’ve had cctv now for around twelve years, no issues, one camera picks up part of nextdoors garden, they know, not concerned, actually popped in a couple of times to see if anything suspicious on it.
Just added a couple of Ring cameras and doorbell, just ease of access really, Neighbour opposite is aware that it picks up there cars on the drive, actually pleased about it. We had an issue two years ago with some car break ins, neighbours called the boys in blue, neighbours reported that we had cameras and they came round to view the footage, even had one of them trying the door of the car. This is where the Ring camera are useful, I get notifications of movement on the drive and is recorded, where as with the cctv you have to trawl through it to find what you want.
No warnings displayed.

The sensible answer for once is one on the front of the house and one on the back of the house. The problem is the instructions say don't mount the cameras in direct sunlight as they are designed to work at a maximum temperature of 40 degrees C and the front of our house faces south so will probably have to be mounted to the soffit near the down pipe for the guttering to get as much shade as possible in the summer. The back is not an issue as that faces north.

You just have to go back to topic don't you
You have to be careful not to place the camera where it will be in direct sunlight as it saturates the CCD and causes a white out, saturation point is 255 by the way also you need to be careful of outside lighting, cameras work best under black lighting, if you put a camera near a light source, this will cause the camera to change from day to night mode as it cant determine whether it is day or night and it changes from black and white to colour constantly.
Place your camera just above head height so that you can get a good facial image of anyone trespassing, angle and height is very important, if you want number plate recognition the camera has to be either very good or low down to get a suitable image from a reflective surface, number plate and facial recognition can be added to most camera systems, its just software, facial recognition is not very reliable.
Also keep the cameras low so you can clean them, a well placed spider or web can completely obscure the camera and the reflection from the spiders web at night will white out the camera, if you have IR lights in the camera.

The instructions for these cameras say that they should be mounted somewhere between 2 - 3m from the ground which is OK for the back of the house but may be a problem at the front unless I fit something that resembles a small shelf just above it to help shade it from direct sunlight so that is why I was going to mount it higher up. It has been suggested that I liven the camera up and see what I can see with the camera at various locations to get the best coverage.

Not sure what your cameras are like but the ones I have, have a slidable top cover, you can pull it out to overhang the front to stop the sun hitting the lens.
You can cable tie the camera to a ladder and move it around and alter the height, that's the way I've done it before.
Obviously there is always a ideal location but it's not always practical, if your camera is 4m high you won't see a face, it acts as a detergent but serves no purpose for identifying the person, unless you see the car or van they were in

thats your best bet...I did the same...but of a fankle but best in the end to try different locations. In the end I mounted 2 of my front ones a little higher, to stop them being tampered with or nicked! The nest camera quality is good and u can zoom Frim so height isn’t so much of an issue...but Roy’s right it’s the sun dazzle that’s to be avoided if poss. It’s not impossible as the have a nice wide angle on them, and multi directional bracket...good luck!

Quality is very important, but it won't help if the angle is wrong, we had to install some cameras lower down in vandle resistant housings to get the angle for facial recagnition, other cameras were moved to a safer location further away and fitted with zoom lenses, we did a lot of cameras at young offenders establishments and local housing associations, where seeing faces was important

Well it's obviously not doing the rounds where you live Anne or you wouldn't be saying that. The girlfriend has had it for well over 2 weeks now and has been off work with a for most of that time. It has to be bad for her to take a day off let alone nearly 2 weeks.
