Airfix models
Anybody into airfix models!!!
Well we bought a couple for our nephew as a.stocking filler so i thought i would have a go and see what they are like compared to when i was a nipper..
One word to describe them.......
Cr@p
Nothing like what they where in those days....
I bought the cutty sark model wish i saved my money..
And the acrylic paints etc what is all that about...
Acrylic paints and plastic dont go together no matter how much i gave the little thimble of paint a stir it just does not cover.......
I was only painting the stand god knows what it will look like once i start the ships hull i may have to get camel laird in for that one...
Also who in their right mind at airfix decided to put a metallic brown in the box to paint the hull....
The mind boggles......
You get what you pay for...

Ive been reading bits n bats on building a wooden galleon with a kit.
The tools you require are like having the entire mechanics snapon collection at hand..
Plank benders
Thats thrown it out of the window...
You buy a kit for 100s of poubds and then you may have to make altertations i mean wtf alterations....
You dont spend a fortune to make alterations...You get what you pay for...

make models out of match sticks, seen some great ones from ships to gypsy caravans. i made a galleon once. sold it for 200 quid for charity. you can even color the match sticks darker by baking them in the oven
used to be a great hobby. just use a piece of card board to get the shape of say the hull and deck then use the match sticks on the surface area. to bend the match sticks to shape. a few half cuts on the match stick and it bends. just a little practice needed. better then plastic models.
