    UK Fisheries Partition

Please take a few moments to sign this petition so we can take back our fisheries. It's looking like our fisherman are going to get screwed on leaving the EU. It only takes a minute and no-one will contact you.

Serves them right as they were a very vocal group in support of brexit. The EU are the only reason there are any fish stocks left to fish

    Signed.

The UK fishing industry was sacrificed by the Heath government as a bribe to join the then "Common Market"- a total disgrace.

We , as a nation, owe it to our fishing industry to do everything we can to help it re-build and restore its former prominence as soon as possible after we escape the grubby EU "project".

In the interest of not derailing the thread in which I want to help and support our fishing towns and communities all over the UK, I won't go there apharr. If possible could as many people take a look and sign the petition as it requires 100,000 signature's for it to be debated in parliament. It's currently at 34,715 at the times of writing.

    Cheers

Signed. With very little in the way of a Navy fleet and coast guard presence I have been very concerned about what is going to happen in our fishing waters after brexit.

Well if the government betray the UK fishing industry in order to appease the EU it will be like it is now full of French, Spanish and EU boat's . While our boat's sit in port rotting with only a fraction of the the overall tonnage.

Even though about half of the overall allocation for the EU is taken from UK water's. I think it's disgusting to be honest. Who on earth would agree to this in the first place wants hanging.

    The common fisheries policy
The combined EU fishing fleets land about 6 million tonnes of fish per year, of which about 3 million tonnes are from UK waters. The UK's share of the overall EU fishing catch is only 750,000 tonnes.
Read up and make your own mind's.

all signed by me, i'm a sea angler and part of a fishing club it been interesting to see how the rules and regs have changed over the years to try and get fish stocks back up again, doesn't seem to be working very well though if i'm being honest.

    UK Fisheries Partition

    Signed UK Fisheries Partition

Same as fred i am also a hull lad, there is no fishing fleet left on our docks and grimsby is a ruin too. Used to be one of the biggest and busiest fishing docks in the country before my time now its just full of wood mainly.
Im also ex royal navy, been out 6 years this year and the RN fleet is on its knees believe me. We Lost more than a quater of the fleet during my 5 years odd of service UK Fisheries Partition even when i first joined the fleet was no where near what it once was UK Fisheries Partition

i was at sea for all my life joined the royal navy at 15. came out at 22 years of age. was in both cod wars. then onto the super tankers. then on to offshore rigs for 30 years.
and i have watched all the ports go down the drain. from Hull to Grimsby. from Lowestoft to Portsmouth. from Plymouth to Aberdeen. Liverpool to fleet wood.
Newcastle as a ship builders. all gone down the plug. the crazy thing is where a bleeding island surrounded by water. and what have we got left. rowing boats on the park pond.
in the sixty s and early seventy s we had the most shipping tonnage in the world. the red duster was a proud flag to fly. breaks me heart. maybe this petition might be the start of a rebuild.

    UK Fisheries Partition

I received a response at 00:50 this morning:

The Government has responded to the petition you signed – “Stop the Common Fisheries Policy being adopted into UK law post-Brexit.”.

    Government responded:

When the UK leaves the EU, we will no longer be bound by the Common Fisheries Policy.

As an independent Coastal State, we will regain our rights to manage our fisheries in accordance with our rights under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and have control of our Exclusive Economic Zone (out to 200 nautical miles or the median line with other states). The UK will be responsible for the management of natural marine resources in this area and will be able to control and manage access to UK waters including fisheries.

The Government has always been clear that the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill ensures that, so far as possible, the same rules and laws will apply on the day after exit as on the day before. This will provide the maximum possible certainty and continuity to businesses, workers and consumers across the UK – so that they can have confidence that they will not be subject to unexpected changes on the day we leave the EU.

The Bill delivers on our promise to end the supremacy of EU law in the UK. It is the mechanism by which the UK will leave the EU while taking back control.

The Fisheries Bill announced in the Queen’s Speech in June will demonstrate how we are taking back control of access to our waters and the allocation of fishing opportunities.

The remaining technical elements of current EU fisheries law will be incorporated in to UK law under the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill, ensuring both certainty and that our fisheries are managed sustainably.

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

    Rob.

I had a email to I've not had chance to have a good look at it.

    Dear Adam,Y
    ou
recently signed the petition “Stop the Common Fisheries Policy being adopted into UK law post-Brexit.”:
    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/204098

A group of MPs called the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee are investigating how possible changes to the fisheries and seafood trading arrangements between the UK and the EU will affect fishers, seafood processors, consumers, coastal communities and the environment.
To help them with their investigation, they'd like to hear from you.
The Committee are particularly interested in these questions:
    1. What are the most important things that the Government need to look at when thinking about UK fisheries?
    2. What are the challenges and opportunities that UK fisheries will face after the UK leaves the European Union, Common Fisheries Policy and London Fisheries Convention?
    3. What stock management objectives should the Government establish in order to achieve the right balance between the interests of seafood consumers, fishers, seafood processors and the environment?
    4. What trade policy objectives should the Government establish in order to achieve the right balance between the interests of consumers, fishers, seafood processors, and the environment?
    5. How effective are the Government's arrangements for representing the interests of the UK's constituent nations within the UK's negotiations for fisheries?
You can find out more, including how to send in your views, here:
    Fisheries inquiry - UK Parliament
We’re expecting the Government to publish the Fisheries Bill in the new year. That’s the draft law that will control access to the UK’s waters and set fishing quotas once the UK has left the EU. The Committee wants to finish its work before that Bill is published. The sooner the Committee receives your views, the easier it is for them to use it in their investigation. They can only accept submissions until 13 December.
What is the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee?

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee looks at and questions how the Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

    · is run
    · spends money
    · decides on its policies

It's a cross-party committee and is independent of the Government.

You can find out more about the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee on its website:

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee - UK Parliament

You can follow the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee on Twitter: @CommonsEFRA

This is a House of Commons ‘select committee’. Find out how select committees work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_2R...ature=youtu.be

    Thanks,
    The Petitions team
