DIY food
Anyone make their own food?
I feed my dogs a DIY raw meat diet.
So I thought I would have a go at it for the fish.
So did similar to the dogs but without ground bone.
I minced chicken meat, liver, kidney, some white fish, carrot, parsnip, squash, green leaf veg, kelp, and flax seed oil.
Froze it in a stick.
Then sliced it and put a hole in the centre and tied it to a line and dangled it in the water.
It’s works out 85% meat and with 15% veg and other ingredients.
They devoured it in second like piranha.
Sorry the water is murky, the rain brought the level above rock divider of my clay marginal beds last night so they were in clay.

Hey Dud, are those the small ones from New Forest!!!
Lovely koi and enjoying their grub.
Interesting subject to bring up and I think very worthwhile,so all the meat I presume was cooked?
I have been on New Forest site and rang them up, very helpfull folk and they buy Jap koi for their stock and some from Hulme koi !!
That impressed I have ordered 150 six week old with 6 x different colours for del Friday.
Well done mate, keep the menus comingJohn

Hi John. Yes they are the 1” fry I got in October from New Forest. There are a couple at about 3” but otherwise about 6” and more.
And No not cooked the meat, it’s all raw, as it would be naturally. I freeze it for 3wks to kill and parasites. Then just mince it raw, add the veg and kelp, mince and mix again and re freeze. I need a mould really so I can make donut shapes, easy to tie on a rope then, at the moment I drill a hole through with cordless drill and thread string through.
In my mind I don’t think the fish are fussy where the protein comes from, and this is all natural.
I will have to research a fishes natural diet, but I don’t it includes wheat and other stuff in pellets.
I’ll see how it affects the water and growth of fish.
