I do like the Queni koi food but i find the 3mm too small and the 6mm too big if they did a 4 mm in their higher protein foods it would be great. i switched back to saki hikari growth in 4mm because my new karashigoi was stuffing its self with QK 3mm and just blowing it all out of its gills

Quite a fair point that sephulk bud, ive never personally had a problemwith the sizes but if the medium pellet was the same size as saki medium then it would be even better in my opinion. Still cant fault queni foods at all but in saying that yes saki is expensive but i still think it is the best out there if your willing to feed your fish like royalty Queni koi food i still use saki multiseason through the cooler and cold months because no other colder temp feed has ever convinced me as much as that, its even brilliant through summer Queni koi food biggest downside is the bloody price. When your ponds taking around a 2kg bag in 5/6 days its just too much Queni koi food thats £50 a week unless bought in bulk and even then its pricey. I only feed heavy for the main summer months but when added up its an eye opener lol

Agree that Saki is the best food but like you say lee i cant justify the price of it,allways use the 6mm even my 6ins ones scoff it down.
It is a good point about doing a 4mm but maybe they cant justify the cost of doing one.

    Queni koi food

Now that all the fish are in and we are halfway through winter my thoughts are coming on to food. I have been feeding QK wheat germ but not a great deal as I’m Not heated so water temp is hovering around 7 degrees. I have about 10 older fish ranging from 35-55cm but I have also bought 5 tosai this year sitting at about 10cm. I wanted to give them the best start possible and I’m willing to buy a mix of saki growth diet and colour as I believe giving them the best at the beginning will boost the chances of becoming great fish. The trouble is my older larger bruisers will probably snaffle it all up! Is it worth buying a mix of floating and sinking to give the little ones a chance at a decent meal???

I like sinking food - the QK sinking stuff (not the sturgeon food) is a bit powdery - but the powder sinks and is hoovered up by the koi so not really a problem. I have one fish that ha a slightly deformed mouth and it has thrived since I started feeding a proportion of sinking.
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

Having a split of floating and sinking will definitely have its benefits for the whole pond skoosh, like people koi have varying habits and preferences. Not all the big guys prefer sinking though Queni koi food my chags will eat anything anywhere but will take floating over sinking.
In regards to feeding the best you can in the early years i do agree and its well know that the first few years are the optimum for growth. If you can afford to feed saki in this period then i do recommend it. On the plus side whilst they are small and growing you actually go through less food but once they are all up to a decent size it can become very costly. Imo once the fish are past 3/4 years its not always the best option to feed the expensive stuff or mega high protein/hi growth feeds. Best to keep them maintained with a good all round food thats not so hard on the wallet and queni/coppens seems to do that perfectly. The hard bit comes when you have a mixed fish age/size pond, do you go expensive and feed for the young ones or go all round and feed for all? Either way it wont hurt any of them so it comes down to cost and what you want to achieve with them. Im a strong advocate of a varied diet though so give a bit of both Queni koi food

I’ve found a website that sells saki that is out of date and going out of date in the next 6 months, trouble is that I believe they open the packs and sell them in individual 1kg amounts which by what you say is the worst thing they can do
