I've got a couple of ideas for the way the air lift is going to supplied etc. that may require some of your knowledge Alan if you don't mind.

I'm always happy to give a view.

However I stress I understand much of the 'science' but there are others here with a LOT more practical experience. They will be able to give you much more real world advice.

On that basis I'm happy to discuss.

You can get lost in over thinking air lifts ...

    1) Feed it plenty water at the inlet (because it can only lift what it can get).

    2) Make it with as long a drive pipe as you can practically manage.

    3) Give it as much air as you can ..... that's it ... if you want to go higher you need a longer pipe and more air (finer bubbles help).

If you want to go really high it'll start to pulse rather than flow ... but that may be ok for you. (Alan can give you a full rundown on why that happens).

I'm undecided about Alan's theoretical design purely because of my own past experience of designing filters only on paper and the outcome of that ... but it is a very elegant design and I hope it does surprise me.

Let me see your design Frimley or PM it and I'll tell you what I think from my years of completely trouble free air lifting and you can take what you want from that and use it alongside Alan's more scientific advice...

    Thanks Trace much appreciated.

As Alan has helped me rule out one of my designs due to my inferior technical knowledge and so I don't look a total plum I put the 2 designs that should work on here in a little while when I get the laptop on. I'm using the phone to reply at the moment and haven't got access to the designs from it.

At least if it is totally wrong it will give someone a good laugh.

This is the basic version - not to scale obviously - just draw to show the basics of it. Ignore the T No. 2, 3 and 4 I forgot to remove those when I changed the design - the first design had 4 T 's

This is another version which should also work.

On the drive pipe there is a stop end on both ends of the top drawing and only one on the bottom of the drive pipe on the bottom drawing.
