Thread: Air curtains

    Air curtains

Discovered over the weekend that the males will feed from the surface much more calmly when the aerated dome is off. Thought I was onto a winner as I want to get some hikari wheatgerm or pure white into them to clean their shiroji out after a couple of months on growth food.

Came back in the morning to find they had spent the night hiding under the showers and left a mountain of poop against the wall in this corner. Turning on the bottom drain air clears it but then a few will only eat off the bottom. Bearing in mind its getting darker and darker and I'd like them eating off the top- how do I get round the issue.

If I put a couple of air curtains in the corner, will this push waste from sides to centre? All suggestions gratefully received.

    Biogeny,

Having air in the corners will create a current that will pull stuff from the middle into the corners.

Have you tried turning on the BD air on for just 2-3 hours during the day after they have finished feeding.

I can do that, but spooks them. Alternative is bd on a timer so its just on at night.

Was hoping there was some way of pushing waste along the bottom. Because the pond is 10 ft square the bd air disturbs the whole surface and pushes floating food against the walls.

Alternately, does anyone turn off the bottom drain air at feeding time? Clearly turning it off can spook them but I've gone from a spotless bottom to a mountain of poop and so looking for some half way house

I only run my BD air overnight. Seems to work ok for me.
