Fry and bottom drains
Hi all
what size would you think fry would need to be before ending up in the filter box?
Or any ideas what I could do to prevent this? I was thinking about a floating net? But was hoping for some other ideas
thanks in advance

The bottom drain on my QT came with a dome and a fry grid which is basically a 300 mm x 300 mm sheet of clear perspex with a load of 6 mm? holes in it. The grid just needs to be held in place with some CT1 sealant or similar fish safe sealant or you could just look on ebay and get some stainless perforated plate which would probably be heavy enough to hold itself down when you allow for the suction effect of the water going down and through your bottom drain?

Either this...

or:
An upside down stainless colander.
A bucket with loads of holes - that'd need weighing down though.
A net with the handle removed.

What size bottom drain have you?
What size are the fry?
I will explain what I did with my 4ins bottom drain, but the same can be done with 2ins etc.
Remove dome cover then fit apropriate size pipe into the hole so that the top is just above water level.
When pipe is correct size with an angle grinder cut slots with a very narrow disc ( i used a concrete disc ) along the length but not the full length so as to keep some strength ie staggered a bit.
Then fit pipe job done.
If you have very small fry like i had 6 week old ones use some of this.

Wrap some round the pipe they wont get through it,brilliant stuff and quite strong.John
