Salt meters
Been looking at salt meters and cant get my head round them.
I see some come precalibrated to 3000 ppm or 0. 3% so that can only be used at 0. 3% salt ?
If you want 0.6% or 0.9% salt does it have to be recalibrated ?
Really cant understand it ( bit thick )
I am old school ie 1/2 oz per gal.
Can anyone recommend one not too expensive.

Have another look at your post from April.
I put up various readings for the pen I have that does what I wanted from it.

Tried one of those . pretty dodgy couldnt not get it to work. at one point i knew i more salt than 0.3 percent in my old pond but it wouldnt even register on the meter
there a better one on amazon like the american one earlier in this post that comes with a Ph for around 15 quid
i got one of those and it was good
didnt last long despite rinsing it after use

I tested mine at 0.6 in 10l of water that I knew was .6 as I added the salt and did the math myself. It read just fine.
They are all cheap crap from China at that end of the price range and at the end of the day and you get what you pay for. Koi medic and Hanna various other makes starting at £80 upwards are all readily available. Extech EC600 for £400. It is what it is mate how often you gonna use it?
I was salting my pond as a one off. Tested accuracy before use and salted. Takes 10 mins to test prior to every use and you have to dissolve the salt in a separate tub anyway prior to adding to pond.

Wasnt all sadness at mine as like i said got one for 15 quid ish . A TDS one off Amazon and it came with a Ph meter too.
that one worked well for a while no complaints there

Can recommend the Koi Medic Salt Meter by Trans Instruments. Not cheap at £76-£80, but it’s so easy to use and very reliable - I’ve just replaced one that I’ve had for 9 years, never needed to recalibrate it. Operating range is 0% - 1%. Worth the money.
