    Bicarbonate of Soda

I use Bicarb to buffer my KH.
Normally I mix this up in a bucket and pour into the pond.

Is there any issue with adding the powder directly into a moving bed chamber?

Not that I've noticed, i add it straight to my moving bed and not had any ill effects on parameters or anything.
Would be interested to read any other replies though in case its something i shouldn't be doing

id put it in just before the pump, then it can mix in the pipes and there is no chance of the bacteria having a wobble at the exposure to neat NaHCO₃

As 'Bowsaw' says above, why hit your moving bed bio with ANY neat chemical if you can avoid it ? Surely mixing in a bucket is not much of a job is it ?

Fortunately I don't have to buffer, but maybe this is one for Manky to elaborate on.

    None whatsoever.

Ideally, put it into the filter system before the pump if possible so it gets a good mix but, if that isn't possible, bung it into the filter system where ever it's most convenient. If you have to put it into the pond, it isn't necessary to mix it in a bucket and distribute it evenly if you can pour it in slowly above an air stone or a return inlet so that it dissolves before it reaches the floor.

    Thanks all.
I am pump fed so I intend adding to my moving bed chamber which is after the combi drum.
It just means I can easily added a scoop full every day when I feed before I leave for work. That should give me better results than the once or twice a week hit that it gets now.

Put mine in the skimmer basket after Ive cleaned it

then it goes to the sieve then pump then down the 3 tier shower.

or i just sprinkle it over the first chamber in my multibay

    never had any issues

    Jim
