Sunday morning thoughts,
I think I'm going to build a completely new pond as my knowledge has improved over the last ten years since the first attempt , and also feel more confident in knowing all the good people on here, it's going to be a little bigger and a little deeper, at the moment it's 18*12*3-5 feet deep I'm thinking 20*12*6 feet deep then fibreglass it I'm bit tired of chasing problems with last build, oh and I want a 6*3 foot window lol I'm sure I will need a bit of assistance in the next few weeks I'm going to start this week

3 bottom drains need 3 separate runs into drum.
You won’t need your first set of air lifts and your second set should probably go after your moving bed however, I’m not sure that airlifts work with drums due to the difference in level between the low point on the dirty side and the pond level? Maybe you could return them below the surface? That could work.
Good project Steve

Wasn't 2 sets of air lifts bud just got sure on main biological filter as no good filling anoxic with air lift full of oxygen or bakki river just fishing for ideas from all you brain boxes lol it's going to be last one I do for myself ( famous last words lol) just want to get it as close to perfect as I can bud, don't you fancy a little holiday to scouse land?? Lol got biccys and beer??? Lol and do I go for small water Blade return or a shallow ledge the whole length of the pond??? Was thinking slate for the more natural look

If there's one thing I love about my pond its the fact that it is 2 ponds in a H shape and has pipework between the 2 so I can choose if I want water to flow between them.
The small section is only 2.4m x 0.6m but it has come in handy so many times.
The fry are living in it at the moment, and once they've gone I'm turning it into an Anoxic filter for the main pond.
You could also have an airlift between the small and big ponds to gravity feed an anoxic filter.
Just some thoughts.

I've got a split pond at the moment rs koi in one side and mirror carp common carp grassys and tench Rudd stergeion in the outher , I want a bigger deeper pond with filters built on the end maybe anoxic or large bakki river with moving bed after the drum , the top sketch is the front view I'm going to build a large window in the front, the missus wants to make a BBQ / fire pit area in the existing pond, I can see me wanting to keep both the to be honest lol but doubt I would get away with it tho

To be honest that makes sence Steve, look at Andi he has an indoor one and I would love something like that.
Think he built the raised pond first then used two of the pond walls as outside walls and built up on that, not too hard of you think about it.John

It's just a permanent set up for what I do in winter but would be much easier to control heat ect, just looking into micro digger hire , as it took ages to dig the last one the ground is like clay bricks you literally have to break it with pic axe then shovel out, the last one was 40 ton of soil / clay so this is going to be more

Starting this week I hope Fred got alot of stuff to move before I can measure up properly , waiting on price for mini digger as I'm thinking of making it sort of sunken build so the root is around same height as the fence if you get me if the original pond is 5 feet down at the moment it must make sense to put everything on the same level and it's got to help with insulation too I'm thinking maybe join everything so you enter the fire pit BBQ area where the ponds next to the conservatory and the whole thing could lead from there, would be a large upside down L Shape in the garden on the left hand side if you get me, my minds doing overtime now lol a long time since I've been this excited over a build I'm doing, but guess it's different when it's your own

Sounds brilliant mate. When I had my last pond build. Which is my last one.
My head was in bits with all the planning and all the stuff that goes with it. So I know where your coming from mate.
Like the sound of the bbq area as well mate. Will look the dogs nads when done
Love a good old pond build.
Plus the surrounding area around a pond.
Which to me sets a pond off.
Good luck with it Steve. And lots of photo s bud
