If anyone wants to keep the numbers coming by all means do so....

All I have to do is add on everything going forwards since the last tally up.

To make it easier please try and keep it in this format and then add any other comments underneath. For the purpose of this I'm considering Ghosties and any type of carp as Koi as they essentially have the same impact on the pond as Koi.

Pond capacity in litres / gallons:
    How many koi over 30cm:
    How many koi under 30cm:
    How many non-koi:
    Main filtration unit:
Have you had to treat for parasites/bacterial infections (exc. injuries) in the last 12 months, if so, how many times:

Once the thread goes off the first page I'll do the recalculations.
    Cheers.

    OK if you insist RS

Pond volume - approx 4550 litres or 1000 gallons
Over 30cm - 7 I think - just guessing on some of them but at least 4 are definitely over 30cm
Under 30cm - 3 out of the above 7 or possibly under
Non Koi - 4 - 3 Golden Tench and 1 Green Tench (the Green Tench and 1 or 2 of the Golden Tench are close to 30cm I think)
Main filter - pump fed Eazy Pod
    Treatments - None

Will see if I can get a more accurate number on the under and over 30cm Koi later when I feed them.

Unheated and changing about 10% of the water per week.

Pond is about 9 years old.

I love a good statistical analysis, as already said, a very small sample of data, to make it really conclusive.

There are always many keyboard warriors, who pop up with comments (good & bad) but seldom join in to this kind of analysis because they fear ridicule, it’s what they do! So come on!!, become someone who helps, not just pokes fun @ those that are trying to LEARN, Sorry but rant over, Let’s ALL HELP.

I guess a lot of people have seen similar threads a million times, submitted all their details, but don't get anything out of it other than possibly criticism.

Whereas this one isn't just nosiness or about making judgements, it was started in the hope we can get something out of it. Maybe the wise old posters have already decided it unlikely a thread like this could provide revelations, and they could be right.

There's a hell of a lot of posters who haven't yet submitted their numbers, so it would be good to see more entries.

I started a thread of this nature on another forum (non-koi) and it was picked up by the press, and actually saw a large financial appreciation in the value of the items concerned, came as a welcome surprise to everyone.

Doubtful the same would happen here but the benefit could be useful advice for newbies, especially on filtration and stocking levels as we've all seen 500 litre ponds with 10 Garden Centre Koi and the poster thinks we're being nasty/snobby when we say "that's not a koi pond, get some shubunkins instead".

I think it would be useful to add a couple more questions to the template - heated or not (and perhaps summary of heating strategy), and weekly water change percentage (including trickle?). Both these parameters could have an impact on the incidence of issues with the fish/water.

I never thought of that, but can't add it now as 15 have already submitted.

Not sure if I've replied to this thread, but here goes Im about to embark on my pond build of around 4000 gal's and I intend to add fish gradually up to around 14 to 16 fish, I've made a list of the fish I'd like, but much depends on availability and the main bit cost, intend to buy young small fish which have the genetics to reach a good size and with plenty of the right colour, anyone got a magic wand

will have a trickle running, heating probably at a later date.

I think its reasonably accepted that newer ponds have more problems (first 2 years or so). But I don't know enough about it to create any worthy analysis.

My pond is still new (extended it this year so its almost a new pond again), but my fish tanks have been running forever, I think 2006 or 2008 was the most recent new setup, and I don't clean the pressure filters, did clean one last year only because I used the media elsewhere, and another hasn't been touched since 2014, they seem to become self cleaning after about a year (I run 2 filters side by side on each tank to help a new one get through that first 6 months to a year). The flow does eventually slow down after 5 or 6 years, then I just clean the mechanical media, add additional ceramic media as it wears away, and replace the filter floss with new from a bag I bought 20 odd years ago.

Last time I ever had a fish health problem (excluding dropsy/swim bladder/old age) in the tanks was over 10 years ago when I bought some new fish. They lived, but all my original stock in that tank died.
