Thread: 110mm and 4"

    110mm and 4"

Being an electrician I try to stay away from plumbing .
But building a big pond I cant avoid it now.
I have started buying some stuff and trying to figure out what bends and valves I need etc etc
    I have a few questions.

The mini super drum states it has two 110mm inlets, If I have a 4" soil pipe (bottom drain) running to a 4" ball valve (solvent joint) then a bit of 4" pipe.......then what to the inlet ? A 4" rubber boot too the drum ?
    Is 4" and 110mm the same ?
    Is 4"/110mm the internal diameter?

With regards to my pumps (aqua forte vario) ,
Again do I pipe stright into them or use some sort of hose .

    Thanks in advance

Rubber boots are the way to go when connecting to your drum.
It is generally excepted 110mm/4inch is the same, but when buying your pipe work what ever size buy all from the same manufacturer. It will fit together better, rather than mix and match with various brands.
Also ensure all solvent weld joints are clean and dry before applying the solvent.

As above boots are better and cheap on Ebay easier to fit as well.

A push fit will go as well but it has to be spot on in alignment.

Yes,rubber boots to pump so easy to disconnect.

Shop around for your boots as prices differ a lot.

All above but if you go 110 into a ball valve you will probably need an insert.

Have a look on my Quarantine build and st up thread as there are loads of them I've used on there as I hate gluing things -

I would caution about going for the really cheep unbranded rubber fittings of eBay - I have had quite a few fail on me. They go brittle and stress crack. Best to go for a branded version or purchase from a reputable seller - coastal koi or absolute koi for example.
    6000g in ground koi pond
    +3000g lily/Anoxic pond attached
    29 koi (40 to 65cm)
Bottom drain, Mid water & Skimmer to Drum
JBR boichamber->Blue eco 500 pump ->below surface return.
Blue Eco 240 -> Large MB -> Waterfall -> Planted Anoxic pond (25 baskets)

    CobraKoi,

Rubber Boots - one of the best brands are Flexseal (part of Fernco), their EPDM rubber connectors are made right here in the UK. Flexseal have more than 75% of the domestic market which tells you something. Their product is more expensive than foreign imports which are generally more PVC and tend to go brittle. The EPDM varieties are more flexible and have a higher co-efficient of friction which also means they are less likely to slip off a smooth pipe and when all of your water passes through one at least every two hours this could be important. Cheapest on eBay - search for flexseal rubber connectors. I've dealt with some other rubbish in my time, often when retailers advertise Flexseal and send something else.

It is actually my garage and yes it is single skin 4ins solid blocks.
I rendered the outside and painted with Sandtex no water gets in.
It is on my pond build when I extended my garage.

I wanted to extend my garage but the next door neighbour wasn't happy about it as I just wanted to knock down the party wall between the two garages and have their garage as part of mine LOL

I was using loads of flexi rubber boots on my QT system but couldn't find some that were the correct sizes for certain things. I found I had a Fernco 2" pipe to 2" socket reducer and also what must have been a 3" pipe to 3" socket reducer as well that I acquired when I got the Cetus Sieve but I can't find any thing else that is the same size as I have been using 4" to 3" reducers to connect 3" slide valves onto 3" pressure pipe and they don't look that great. I've had a quick look on ebay but can't seem to find the same sizes which would fit much better. Maybe they have stopped making them now?
