    Leeches

Anybody had any problems with leeches? Any idea on getting rid of them? There seems to be loads of babies getting caught in my nexus but not in my seive ? They both fed from same settlement tank but from separate pumps, any help would be great, cheers steve

Are they definitely leeches? Do you have any photos or video?

I put my arm into a filter once, shoulder deep. When i withdrew my arm it had approx 50 leeches clinging to it. I tore round the neighbourhood wailing in horror.

They weren't leeches in the end just bloodworm type things.

There is only one freshwater leech in the UK (Pisicola Geometra) that may harm your fish. All other leeches are harmless to koi. The fish leech is a green/yellow/brown colour and has two large round suckers at each end. Hope this helps.

Best pics I could get but think I've found the problem , my settlement chamber is working a bit too well the sand and silt seem to be where they are coming from, so that's tomorrow's job

They are not fish leeches. They look like a uk freshwater species called Erpobdella Octoculata and will not harm your koi.

I have in my wildlife pond a transparent slug leech thing.
Cant find anything online like it.
There about 40mm long, 6-8mm diameter.
A jelly like substance with tiny visible spots inside.
They are on the pond sides and on the plants, don't seem to move, no obvious head or tail end.
    Anyone know what they are?
Maybe tomorrow I can try to get a picture.

That gave me something to search, getting pictures that looked like what I have in the pond. There is certainly plenty of snails in there. Thankyou.

Those are definitely not the type of leeches that parasitise fish or suck your blood. I used to get them in my filter in the old pond, if you throw them in for the fish they like to eat them
For some reason my new pond does not get them- probably because of the drum and/or being a raised pond with no wildlife other than the odd mozzie or dragonfly.
